We are saddened to announce the passing of Dr. John F. "Doc" Bodie of Port Clinton, on Friday, Oct. 13, 2023. He passed peacefully in the early morning hours in his sleep.

He will be greatly missed by family and friends alike. We would like to thank the multiple healthcare providers and staff of Riverview Health Campus and Stein Hospice for their attentive and compassionate care and assistance to John in his waning days.

John was born June 1, 1937, in Toledo, to John and Ann Bodie, the second of six children. He was a graduate of Toledo Central Catholic High School, University of Toledo, and The Ohio State University, College of Medicine. Following his medicine internship at Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona, he was inducted into U.S. Air Force, where he served in its Medical Corps at Edwards Air Base, California, being honorably discharged as a Captain following his service, receiving the National Defense Service Medal and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award. Upon discharge, he returned to Ohio where he completed his residency and fellowship in radiology at University Hospitals in Cleveland. Following completion of his radiology training, he came to Port Clinton and entered the private practice of radiology with his brother-in-law, Dr. Donald Loeffler.

He practiced in both Port Clinton and Sandusky, where he was a diagnostic radiologist at Magruder Hospital, Good Samaritan Hospital, and Firelands Community Hospital until his retirement in 1997. He also served on Magruder Hospital Board of Trustees for many years. John was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, served on Port Clinton City School Board, was a team physician for the Port Clinton and Danbury football teams, member of Colonial Club, Port Clinton Elks Lodge, a founding member of the conservation group, Lake Erie Sports Fishermen, Inc., and Past-Commodore of Port Clinton Yacht Club, where he was a long-time member and avid boater. He was an alumnus and rabid fan of The Ohio State football team and avid attendee of his children and grandchildren's sports, events, plays, musicals, graduations, and numerous other activities.

While undeniable that John loved and cherished his wife and family, it is arguable that his first true love was fishing. He spent most of his life seeking out and relishing the next catch or tightening of his line. His fishing stories were more than "fishing stories." He was a life-long angler, gaining the love of the sport from his father. He was an early and regular participating captain of what has now become "Fish Ohio Day" with the Governor, having hosted then Governors James Rhodes and George Voinovich on his boat during the event for a day of Lake Erie walleye fishing. He further shared his angling passion with his children, grandchildren, schoolchildren, and many, many other friends and acquaintances, teaching them the "hows" and "how nots" of fishing. It is far from an exaggeration to say he could catch fish when few others could. It is reported by the DNR that there are schools of fish now celebrating his life and passing.

John was married to Margaret C. Bodie for 59 years and she survives him. He is also survived by three children, John "Chip" (Leigh) Bodie of Lakewood, Ann (John) Stauffer of Sandusky, and David (Michelle) Bodie of Port Clinton; seven grandchildren, Megan, Andrew, Audrey, Jack, Nick, Nora, and Lucas; two great-grandchildren, Leo and Josie; siblings, Harry Bodie, Dorothy Swanbeck, Mary Bodie, and Frank Bodie; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John Edward and Ann (Curtin) Bodie of Toledo; and older sister, Patricia A. (Bodie) Nelson of Galax, Virginia.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Church, 414 Madison Street, Port Clinton. Visitation for friends will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, at Gerner-Wolf Walker Funeral Home, 216 Washington Street, Port Clinton.

While flowers and arrangements are always lovely and greatly appreciated, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions if so considered may be made to Stein Hospice, Ottawa County Community Foundation, or one of your own choosing.
