John Urban, 96, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Norwalk Memorial Home.
He was born in and lived in Willard for 30 years. He was a resident of Milan and then Norwalk for the rest of his life. John was an U.S. Navy and World War II veteran, serving on an LST ship from 1944-1946. He worked for Northern Ohio Telephone Company, GTE, and Verizon Telephone Company for 36 years, retiring in 1988.
John enjoyed biking, walking, and swimming, and could be frequently seen around town enjoying these activities.
John is survived by his children, Anne (Dan) Burkhart of Bellevue, Mark (Pam) Urban of Brownstown, Michigan, Tina (Drew) Williams of Ft. Myers, Florida, Barb (David) Boes of Libertyville, Illinois, and Shawn Urban of Tucson, Arizona; grandchildren, Matt Burkhart, Jessica (James) Bellman, Stephanie (Stuart) Stanley, Brook Urban, Dakota (Jannessa) Urban, Timothy (Elena) Lauderbach, Tyler (Evgenia) Williams, Carson Williams, Kevin Boes, Jillian Boes, and Brittany Urban; and great-grandchildren, Brady and Jackson Burkhart, Sarah Collins, and Tori and Eli Stanley.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mary Urban; a son in infancy; and sisters, Mary Williams and Elizabeth Mauer.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Walker-Eastman-Heydinger Funeral Home, 98 W. Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, 44857. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 13, 2023, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, 44857. Burial will follow at St. Paul Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, John wished donations would be made to St. Paul Catholic Church, 91 E. Main Street, Norwalk, Ohio, 44857.

I will really miss John wandering into our office at HearingLife. He was a sweet man who maintained his independence, walking up a long flight of stairs to his apartment, until the end. I visited with him at the Norwalk Memorial Home several times when helping another resident there. It's hard to see someone decline, but there has to be an end eventually, doesn't there? He went full circle ending his life on the date of his birth.
