Kami Moon Obituary

Kami L. Moon

Jan 21, 1978 - Apr 20, 2025

Berlin Heights

Kami Moon passed away Sunday, April 20, 2025, at 5:45 a.m. She was just in time to use her raspy voice, her one-of-a-kind sense of humor, and her infectious laugh for a heavenly morning show broadcast.

Kami's timing has always been excellent, as she was born January 21, 1978, just in time to witness the blizzard of 1978.

Kami was a 1996 graduate of Edison High School and graduated from Ohio School of Broadcasting in Valley View. She interned for the Billy Bass radio show in Cleveland and worked at WGAR coordinating their "Coats for Kids" clothing drive. She began her dream job as a radio broadcaster on the "Cooking with Kami" program on WLKR in Norwalk. She really enjoyed eating rather than cooking but shared terrific recipes. Her morning show experience began with K96 Country, an Elyria/Lorain Broadcasting network. Her morning show cohorts were Tim Kelly, Mike Jeffries, and Josh Bowman during her 24 years at the station. From October 2024 through mid-February 2025, she was privileged and proud to do her own "Moon Over Mid-Day" show from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. daily.

She also served as Programming and Promotions Director. Kami used her hosting and "gift for gab" skills to help wherever and whenever she could for local non-profit and community events including emcee-ing "Girls Night Out" for breast cancer, Erie County Humane Society, Local Festivals, and Maxton Soviak Foundation. She was proud to organize 24 years of Firefighters Chili Cook-Offs and WLKR and K96 Listener Appreciation Jams at Huron Boat Basin. During County Fair season, she could be found at Erie, Huron, Lorain, and Sandusky County Fairs in the station's booth broadcasting or giving away prizes.

Always ambitious, Kami enjoyed waitressing throughout her life, beginning at age 15 at Marconi's, Olive Garden, and Sandusky Bay Pancake House. In her free time, she loved working in her yard and decorating her famous flower boxes at her home in Sandusky. A perfect evening started with a Harry Potter Marathon, Bravo TV, and a Chef Boyardee pizza. But the most-loved time was spent playing games with her Ohio relatives at the dining room table, at her parents' swimming pool, or with her Florida relatives on their beaches.

Kami was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Bea and Ted Ickes of Norwalk; her paternal grandparents, Irma and Arthur Moon of Berlin Heights; her daughter, Autumn Kelly; and her beloved cat, Onyx; her rescue dog, Taz; and her bossy dachshund, Ruthie.

Kami is survived by her parents, Linda and Kelly Moon of Berlin Heights; and her sister, Kelly (Kurt) Vetter of Toledo. She is Aunt Mimi to nephew, Daniel Kelley Vetter; and niece, Marissa Grace Vetter. She's also survived by loving aunts and uncles, precious cousins, and many treasured friends. She leaves her long-haired dachshund, Mac, to keep her parents company.

As one friend wrote, Kami has faced much adversity in her life with a positive mindset when others would have had a bitter attitude and questioned why me. She has been strong, smiled through it all, and packed a lot of living into too short a time.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Kami's memory can make a donation to Erie County Humane Society, 1911 Superior Street, Sandusky, Ohio 44870; or Maxton Soviak Foundation, Civista Bank, 24 East Main Street, Berlin Heights, Ohio 44814.

Visitation is from 2-8 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2025, at Toft Funeral Home, 38 South Street, Berlin Heights. Funeral/Life Celebration Service for family, friends, and co-workers will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Berlin Heights.

To one of my dearest friends. "Simply the best". What can be said other than what a tremendous loss, (for all). We´d been through the best & toughest of times together. Counted on each other countless times. To say you´ll be missed just doesn´t do it justice. I´ll miss you desperately, but I know you´re in the best place with all the friends & family, including little Autumn. Although I´ll miss your guidance, I´m glad there is no more suffering.

With all our love,
The Richardson´s.

"I Will tell you all about it when I see you again, Kami". Rest in peace
