Kathleen Franklin Obituary

Kathleen Ann (Meyer) Franklin

Mar 5, 1931 - Mar 2, 2025

Huron

Kathleen Ann (Meyer) Franklin, 93, of Huron, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, March 2, 2025, at Kingston Residence in Vermilion.

She was born March 5, 1931, in Bellevue to Erwin and Ruth (Kohlmeyer) Meyer. She graduated from Norwalk High School in 1949, where she was known by the nickname "Kelly."

After graduation, she started working at Norwalk Truck Lines. She left the company after the birth of her first child. Kathleen later worked at and retired from Huron Public Library - a fitting job given her lifelong love of books and reading. She loved dressing in character for storytime at the library and had a pin on her blouse or blazer for every occasion. But she often said her best job was being a mother to her three children.

She grew up in Bellevue and Norwalk, but lived most of her life in Huron where she and her husband, Bill, raised their family in a home they both loved. They spent 40 winters in Fort Myers, Florida, enjoying many visits with family and friends.

Kathleen cherished her time with family and friends who often called her "Kathy." At the heart of Kathleen's world, was her beloved husband, Bill, whom she said was "one in a million." They shared a long and happy marriage of 67 years. One could not think of Kathleen without thinking of Bill. She missed him dearly after his passing but found comfort in her Lutheran faith and belief in God, knowing they would one day be reunited.

Kathleen and Bill traveled extensively throughout their marriage, especially during their retirement. When their three children were growing up, they took many wonderful camping trips as a family throughout the United States and Canada. In addition to their many trips to Europe and Australia, they also took several cruises including a favorite Caribbean cruise with their family to celebrate Kathleen and Bill's 50th wedding anniversary.

Throughout her life, she enjoyed attending and watching sporting and musical events for her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Kathleen is survived by her brother, Dean Meyer; her daughter, Linda (Franklin) Makarewicz (Michael); her son, Dean Franklin; four grandchildren, Kathleen McCabe (Dan), Megan Makarewicz (Robert Price), Philip Makarewicz, and Paige Dawson (Jacob Boettner); and three great-grandchildren, Hattie and Matthew McCabe, and Arthur Boettner.

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester "Bill" Franklin; brother, Robert Meyer; sisters, Virginia (Meyer) Dabrunz and Joyce (Meyer) Kettel; and daughter, Lori (Franklin) Dawson.

Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Zion Lutheran Church, 930 Main St., Huron, OH, 44839, with memorial services at 11 a.m. Immediately following will be a burial at Scott Union Cemetery in Huron.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Huron or The Foundation for Firelands at Firelands Health in Sandusky.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Kingston Residence of Vermilion, the staff of Firelands Home Health, and Kathleen's loving caregivers.
