Lavonne "Vonnie" Edith Wasem (nee Mueller), 90, passed away Thursday, March 9, 2023.

Vonnie was born Aug. 26, 1932, in Amherst, where she lived all her life.

She graduated from Amherst High School in 1950 where she helped her music teacher create the Comet Fight song.

She worked at US Automatic as a bookkeeper. She taught piano lessons for 40 years and was the organist at Old Stone Evangelical Church for 65 years. She was a member of Rebekah Circle and helped with the free meals at the church.

She was a member of Song Stylist's and Amherst Community Chorus. She worked at the voting polls for Board of Elections for over 50 years.

She liked to do cross stitched table runners, word searches, and enjoyed watching Cleveland Indians.

She is survived by her daughters, Raynelle (Jerry) Bozicevich and Cheryl (Joe) Wasem; sons, Russ Wasem and Bruce (Amy) Wasem; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nephew, Doug (Pam) Wasem; and niece, Annette (Jeff) Knapp.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Gilbert; parents, Jacob and Mabel (Battenhouse) Mueller; and sister, Jean Pierson.

The family would like to thank Denise's Adult Care Facility for the great care they gave their mother.

Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Hempel Funeral Home, Amherst. Vonnie's funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2023, at the funeral home with the Rev. Dan Reinke officiating. Rebroadcasting of services will be available at www.hempelfuneralhome.com. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Vonnie's memory to Old Stone Evangelical Church, 553 S. Main St., Amherst, Ohio, 44001.
