Leo Hahl Obituary

Leo Robert Hahl

May 4, 1951 - Feb 15, 2025

Republic

Leo Robert Hahl was born May 4, 1951, in Norwalk, and he died at home on Saturday, February 15, 2025, after a six-and-a-half-year journey with stage 4 lung cancer. Born to Leo and Esther Hahl, he was the youngest of three.

Leo graduated from Attica High School, and while he briefly considered other professions, he started working at Norfolk Southern Railway in 1970 and retired 41 years and five months later. In his free time, Leo could often be seen out in the fields, driving tractors for the neighbors. He wasn't one to sit still, and not many people could move at his speed.

On October 14, 1972, Leo married Rosalie "Poe" Delahunty, his high school sweetheart, at St. Peter and Paul Church in Attica. They had three daughters together, Jennifer, Shannon, and Erin, and Leo took great pride in supporting his family. Leo worked many long hours on the railroad, only to later turn around and attend his daughters' many school events. His summer evenings were often spent playing softball in the front yard, hitting pop ups and playing catch.

Leo was a member of St. Gaspar del Bufalo Catholic Church, and his faith was significant to him since he was little. He helped lead the church's annual chicken barbeque dinner for many years, and up until his last year of life, he faithfully gathered with friends on Sunday evenings to say the rosary.

Leo was also quite social, gathering friends from different parts of his life to play Euchre, Five Crowns, or Dominoes. He was the proud host of the annual Hahl Thanksgiving Dominoes tournament, and while he never took the title, he always adored seeing his loved ones sitting around a big table together while eating, drinking, and laughing.

Leo was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie; and his parents, Leo and Esther (Reinhart) Hahl.

Survivors include Jennifer Holmer (Tim), Shannon Poulson (Larry), and Erin Hahl (Rachel Knoke); and grandchildren, Lathan, Alaina, Reed, Teddy, Mahni, and Youvika. His sisters, Leona Herman and Florence Boule, also survive him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2025, at St. Gaspar del Bufalo Catholic Church, Bellevue, with the Rev. Joseph P. Joseph celebrating. Burial will follow at Reed Assumption Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 3:30 p.m. Friday, February 21, 2025, and the family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. at Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia Street, Bellevue, Ohio 44811.

The family would like to thank Dr. Vivek Abhyankar, Marty Factor, Sharon Williams, Jaimie Beamer, and Stein Hospice, as well as the numerous family and friends who provided support to Leo through meals and visits in his last year of life. There are too many of you to name, but we thank you all.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Reed Assumption Cemetery Fund.
