Lonnie Cherry Obituary

Lonnie Dean Cherry

Feb 18, 1935 - Nov 19, 2025

Monroeville

Lonnie Dean Cherry, 90, of Monroeville, passed away Wednesday evening, November 19, 2025, at The Willows at Bellevue.

Born February 18, 1935, in Sandusky, Lonnie was a helpful one-of-a-kind family man. With his company, Lonnie Cherry Bulldozing, he had made his living after getting out of the Marines, where he worked as a heavy equipment operator.

In the community, he was involved in the Lutheran church and helped with park management in Mitiwanga on Lake Erie. His time living was spent with his expansive family, whom he showed his love through innumerable actions rather than words, whether it was helping with chores, going out on his boat, or gardening and sharing produce at every harvest.

Lonnie is survived by his stepson, David Garwood; grandsons, Rich and Ken Dewey; niece, Karen Dorsey; nephew, Thomas Wilson; brothers, David (Joann) and Melvin (Joann); sisters, Carol Brutcher and Celia Harding; and many more relatives.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Eleanor; daughter, Lisa Dewey; his parents, Henry and Clara; brothers, Roy (Eunice), Gene, Earl (Diane), Wayne, Lynn (Betty), and Allen; sister, Ellen (Leonard); and brother-in-law, Robert Brutcher.

A man of few words but great deeds, Lonnie left his mark on many hearts and made his presence known in the community.

Friends may call from 2 p.m. until time of service at 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at Pfeil Funeral Home, Monroeville Chapel, 109 Monroe Street, Monroeville. Stu Young, Lutheran SAM, will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Toys for Tots.
