Lou Ann (Smith) Gioffre, 82, of Berlin Heights, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023, at Parkvue Health Care Center after a brief illness.

She was born March 22, 1940, in Norwalk, to Leonard and Lutilla (Green) Smith.

Lou Ann graduated from Berlin Heights in 1958 and received her Bachelor's degree from Defiance College in 1962. She was employed as a Librarian at Berlin Milan Public Schools for 27 years. Lou Ann was a faithful member of The First Congregational UCC, where she served on many committees, sang in the choir as well as organizing the Acolyte program. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading a good book, the beauty of creation and being outdoors, connecting kids with the right books, and being an encouragement to others.

She is survived by her sister, Gail Eakin of Parker, Pennsylvania; nephew, Gregory of Spring Hill, Kansas, and his three children; niece, Tiffany and her three daughters of Lafayette Indiana; nephew, Leonard Eakin and his two daughters of Custer, South Dakota; and other relatives.

Lou Ann was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Richard Smith.

Lou Ann's memorial service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 6, 2023, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 5 E. Main St., Berlin Heights, with Chaplain Mel Sayler presiding. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery simultaneously with her husband, Frank Gioffre, who passed in 2020.
