Lula Mae "Lofton" McLendon, 95, Erie, Pennsylvania, and formerly of Sandusky, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Nov. 28, 2024, after a brief illness. She passed away at her home in Erie, Pennsylvania, surrounded by loved ones.

Born Feb. 2, 1929, in Shubuta, "Altair", Mississippi, daughter of the late Grady and Bessie "Woodard" Lofton. Lula lived most of her adult life in Sandusky before moving to Shubuta to care for her ailing parents. Lula later resided in Erie with her sister, Louise Moffett, before living with her granddaughter, Geralyn "Jeannie" Thomas, until her death.

A devoted wife, mother and grandmother Lula could light up a room with her infectious smile. No one was ever a stranger to her. She had a way of making everyone feel welcome. Lula's passion was cooking; she was known for her delicious cakes, which were her specialty. She also enjoyed crocheting, bowling and being with family.

Lula is survived by her children, Barbara (Kathy) "Joseph" Evans of Austell, Georgia, John "Michelle" McLendon, of Painesville, Donna "Jerry" Taylor of Sandusky, and granddaughter Geralyn "Jeannie" Thomas, whom she raised as a daughter; grandchildren she loved so dearly, Brooke Martin, Darius Edwards, Kimberly Evans, William "Jerrelle" Franklin, Jerry "Milan" Taylor Jr, Jerron Taylor, Corey McLendon and Dayonna Taylor; along with 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Grady Lee, R.C, Roy, Robert "Junior", all of Shubuta Mississippi; sisters, Gracie Lofton, Great Neck, New York, Evon "Robert" Carter, Louise "Billie" Moffett, Mary "Gregory" Myers, and Nollie "Trish" Lofton all of Erie, Pennsylvania; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Lula is preceded in death by her husband, John McLendon; son, Larry McLendon; daughter, Geraldine McLendon; brothers, Albert, Arthur Wayne, Earl, Wilbert, Nate and Ollie Lofton; and a sister, Odell "Curtis" Woodard.

Family and friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2024, at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. Funeral service will be at noon Friday, Dec. 13, 2024, at Porter's Memorial C.M.E Church, 1722 East Third St., Sandusky. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery.
