Margaret also worked at Osterman's Jewelers.

Margaret was active in the fight against annexation, writing articles and making speeches on local radio. Widowed for a number of years, she married Fred H. Deering, who was a long-time friend of the Bruens family. She participated in his political campaign from school board member to Ohio State Representative. She volunteered for Erie County Senior Center, delivering Meals on Wheels. Margaret was a member of Sawmill Creek Women's Golf Club for 38 years, earning Club Champion during that time. She also sponsored the Cindy Grimm-Susan Komen Golf Tournament in honor of her daughter for the past 10 years. Margaret was a member of St. Johns Church of Christ, Milan.

Margaret is survived by her children, John (Kay) Bruens and Patricia (Terry) Meese; stepchildren, Daryl (Joyce) Deering, Diane (Karl) Nolte, Steve (Sandra) Deering, and Brian (Julie) Deering; daughter-in-law, Cheryl Bruens; grandchildren, Carrie (Chris) Lewis, Anthony Grimm, Stephanie Meese, Michael (Dr. Beth Pichter) Meese, John K. Bruens, Dr. Courtney Bruens, and Alicia (Eric) Hemoipa; stepgrandchildren, Ryan (Anne) Deering, Chris (Melanie) Deering, Brad (Lindsley) Deering, and Keith (Ashley) Deering; and 12 great-grandchildren.
