Margherita (Sortino) Terranova, 89, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully early Monday morning, Dec. 26, 2022, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.
Margherita was born Aug. 19, 1933, in Modica, Sicily, the daughter of Michele and Pasqualina (Caruso) Sortino. Her life was her family. She was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Margherita is survived by two daughters, Lena (George) Spadaro and Josie (Dan) Angelo, both of Sandusky; son, Peter (Teresa) Terranova of Hilliard, Ohio; nine grandchildren, Celia (Mike) Carbo, Katy Angelo, Marco (Kaitlin) Spadaro, Christian (Shelby) Angelo, Elisabeth (Nick) Palella, Giselle Spadaro, and Eric, Michael, and William Terranova; three great-grandchildren, Giuliana and Giorgio Spadaro and Emery Angelo; sister, Giovanna Ruta; two brothers, George (Nancy) Sortino and James (Rosaria) Sortino; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 62 years, Giovanni "John" Terranova on Sept. 25, 2016; and brother, John Sortino.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 31, 2022, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Monte Hoyles will officiate. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Sandusky.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made in her memory to Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870, or Stein Hospice Service, Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870.
Arrangements have been entrusted to David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
