Marilyn E. Huston

Jan 23, 1928 - Oct 5, 2024

Clyde

Marilyn E. (Murphy) Huston, 96, died Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024, at her home of 71 years in Clyde.

Marilyn was the eldest child of Mary E. (McConnell) and William Earl Murphy. She was born Jan. 23, 1928, in New Philadelphia, Ohio.

In 1945 she graduated from Newcomerstown High School. Marilyn then graduated from Ohio University in 1949.

On July 22, 1949 she married George R. Huston. They moved to Townsend Township the summer of 1953 when George took a job with Ohio Edison. Mrs. Huston taught school for Margaretta Schools for one year and then was a stay at home mother and eventually the "Sergeant" of the "labor crew" of the farm and orchard she and George had. Beginning in 1968, Mrs. Huston began teaching at Clyde High School. She was an English teacher for 20 years, prior to her retirement.

Marilyn was a member of First United Methodist Church in Clyde, where she had been active in numerous areas of the church, especially the kitchen. She and her friend, Mariellen, cooked for many organizations that met at the church. She was also a member of the former Progress Club of Clyde, Townsend Grange, and Sandusky County Retired Teachers.

She is survived by four children, Melanie (Tim) Taylor and Melinda (Dean) Auxter, all of Clyde, Ronald (Deb) Huston of Bellevue, and William (Kris) Huston of Zanesville; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and her three siblings, Jeanne Pichel of Shelby Township, Michigan, John Murphy of New Philadelphia and Walter (Marian) Murphy of Newcomerstown.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George on June 12, 1998; a brother-in-law, Frank Pichel; and sister-in-law, Grace Murphy.

The family would like to thank the kind women who cared for and loved Mom for the last four years.

Visitation will be 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, at Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home, 218 S. Main St., Clyde. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Parkhurst Cemetery.
