Mark Clifford Obituary

Mark Clifford

Jul 24, 1951 - Apr 8, 2025

Monroeville

Mark Clifford, 73, residing in Monroeville, passed away Tuesday evening, April 8, 2025, after a brief illness.

Mark was born July 24, 1951, in Columbus to the late Charles E. and Marjorie F. (McGinty) Clifford.

Mark graduated from Bishop Watterson High School in Columbus and built a successful career with JCPenney, retiring in 2000 as a District Manager for Northeast Territories after 30 years of dedicated service. Following his retirement, he joined his wife in running their family-owned business, MG Carpet Care. A longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and Point Yacht Club, Mark found joy in life's simple pleasures-boating and being on the water, playing golf, and delivering his signature collection of terrible Dad jokes that never failed to bring laughter. He had a true gift for bringing people together by hosting unforgettable gatherings or cooking meals from the heart for his cherished friends and family.

Mark is survived by his wife, Rosemary (McDonnell) Clifford, whom he married June 27, 1981; two daughters, Caitlin (Forest Carman) Clifford and Kara (Thomas Griffing) Clifford; grandchildren, Harry and Ava Griffing; sisters, Marty (Mark) Smith, Missy (Doug) Randolph, and Maureen (Chris) Donovan; brother, Matt (Sandy) Clifford; brother-in-law, Kevin O'Donnell; beloved dog, Erin; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Mark is preceded in death by his sister, Molly O'Donnell; his sister-in-law, Cathy McDonnell; and nephew, Matthew Randolph.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday, April 11, 2025, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Mass of Christian Burial will at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 12, 2025, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Ave., Sandusky, with the Rev. Monte Hoyles presiding. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Sandusky. The family will be hosting a Celebration of Life at their home in June.

My Condolences to Rose and family. I lived next-door to Mark when I lived in Bristol Rhode Island. Both Mark and Rose were wonderful people and great neighbors, Mark was always willing to help and always greeted me with a smile, which made me suspicious at first but realized that Mark didn't follow New England rules.
Mark invited me over for a beer in his garage with another neighbor when Hurricane Bob hit RI in 1991, we rode out the storm with beer and jokes.
Mark will be missed by all.

Mark was our dear friend who we met several years ago when he and his beloved Rose lived next door to us in Miramar Beach, Florida. His humor, his enthusiasm for boating and cooking, his joy with Erin, their Labrador Retriever, all made Mark a pleasure to be with. He was a friend to everyone he met and always had a joke to tell to make them smile. He will be sorely missed by Barb and I.
