Mary Francis Obituary

Mary J. Francis

Apr 14, 1929 - Mar 7, 2025

Huron

Mary Jayne Francis, 95, of Huron, passed away Friday, March 7, 2025, at Parkvue Healthcare Center.

Jayne was born April 14, 1929, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Robert M. Tyrie and Mary (McPherson) Tyrie.

She graduated from Coraopolis High School and worked at a bank in Pittsburgh following graduation. In 1949, she married Cledwyn D. Francis of Neville Island, Pennsylvania. After having three daughters, they relocated to Birmingham, Alabama, in 1960. A subsequent job transfer took them to Huron in 1970, where their daughters married and started families. Another transfer brought them back to Birmingham in 1979. After both retired, they returned to Huron in 1990 to be with their family.

Before retiring, Jayne worked in accounting roles at GTE in Huron and Vulcan Materials Company in Birmingham.

Jayne was an avid reader and a dedicated daily walker. She was a highly skilled cross-stitcher, with beautifully framed pieces displayed throughout her home. She created Christmas cross-stitch ornaments for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and adorned her home with festive lights and decorations each Christmas season.

She had a fiercely independent spirit and a strong determination to take on any challenge. A meticulous record-keeper, she was highly organized in every aspect of her life. She loved engaging in conversations and, above all, cherished laughter.

Jayne is survived by her daughters, Kathy Hower, Susan (Steve) Borgelt, and Linda Lewis; six grandchildren, Sarah (Jake Smith) Hower, Derek (Christina) Hower, Allyson (John) Lindsley, Megan (Chris) Hill, Amy (Maggie Lewis-Stevenson) Lewis, and Stacey Lewis; and 12 great-grandchildren, Mason, Allie, and Jace Smith, Clara, Preston, and Grant Hower, Jayla and Kyler Lindsley, Emma and Annie Hill, and Ethan and Quinn Lewis-Stevenson. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Cledwyn Francis; sons-in-law, Bob Hower and John Lewis; her parents, Robert and Mary Tyrie; siblings, Robert M. (Jane) Tyrie and Elaine (Roger) Lewis; brother-in-law, Elmer (Rae) Francis; and sister-in-law, Betty (Richard) Huling.

Burial took place at Scott Cemetery in Huron, followed by a family celebration of life at Plum Brook Country Club.

Memorial contributions may be made to Huron Public Library, 333 Williams Street, Huron, OH 44839.

So sorry to hear about Mary Jane. I enjoyed many evenings at Parkvue nursing home a taking to her at dinner about her early years in Coreopolis PA. She was so full of life and when I went in to feed my Mom, Mary jane was always a pleasure to be with. I will miss her. God Bless you Mary Jane
