Upper Sandusky
Mary L. Seitz, 90, of Upper Sandusky, passed away Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, at her home surrounded by her children.
Mary was born Jan. 27, 1933, in Sandusky, to Alfred "Red" and Esther (Toft) Riedy. She married the love of her life, Joseph L. Seitz, who she first met while working as a carhop at a root beer stand in Sandusky where Joe was a customer. It was love at first sight, which led to them being married May 30, 1951, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Sandusky. After 66 years of marriage, Joe passed away Feb. 21, 2018.
She is survived by her children, Debbie (Doug) Lehman of Upper Sandusky, Steve (Sue) Seitz of Upper Sandusky, Dave (Jill) Seitz of Findlay, Mary Jo (Tom) Runfola of Sarasota, Michelle Seitz of Upper Sandusky, and Sandra Kin of Hilliard; nine grandchildren, Nathan (Carree) Lehman, Matthew (Tegan) Lehman, Andrew (Emily) Lehman, Dan (Nicole) Seitz, Cory (Miranda) Seitz, Michael (Deborah) Seitz, Emily Seitz, Aaron (Ashley) Seitz, and Adam Seitz; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and two sisters, Alice Stanley and Shirley Miller.
Mary was a homemaker and in her younger years, worked for Toft Dairy in Sandusky, a family-owned business, The Courier as a reporter, as a church secretary for St. Peter's, and in later years, as the secretary for her husband at CMC Investments. Mary was also an Avon representative. In addition, she spent many hours as a volunteer at her daughter's school. She was one of the founding members of Community Christian Center, where she served the church as an elder's wife, as a director of Vacation Bible School, and as a volunteer in the kitchen for many church activities. Mary had a church greeting card ministry for many years, sending cards to everyone in her family and the church for every special occasion in their lives. For hobbies, Mary enjoyed fishing for perch, reading, sewing, crocheting, bird watching, doing puzzles, cooking, and baking. She will be remembered as being there for her family, whether it was being a den mother for Cub Scouts or being present for the kids and grandkids with any activity in which they were involved. She was also there for others. After suffering a severe stroke 25 years ago, she was part of a ministry for other stroke patients and their families going through similar situations. Mary will be dearly missed by many.
Mary's funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 22, 2023, at Community Christian Center, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Bill Williamson officiating. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, 2023, at Lucas Batton Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, and 10-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
