Mary J. Steele, 90, of Huron, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2022, at Firelands Regional Medical Center, surrounded by her family.

She was born March 5, 1932, in Sandusky, to the late Anthony and Theresa (Pullano) Angello. She was a 1950 graduate of Sandusky High School and worked different jobs in the area prior to her being a librarian at Ontario and Hancock schools.

She was a tremendous baker, making chocolate candy and wedding cakes. She loved being downtown, taking in all our beautiful community had to offer. She loved people and maintained her close contact with friends and family throughout her entire life. Mary loved to read. She instilled the love of reading in her family and countless children through her work at the library. But her dedication didn't end there. She often entertained children who stopped by her house after school to see their favorite librarian.

Mary is survived by her husband, Paul Steele, whom she married Nov. 4, 1950; sons, Robert D. Steele of Lancaster, Kentucky, Tim P. (Lynn Bragg) Steele of Huron, and G. Scot (Kathleen) Steele of Dover, Ohio; grandson, Gian Paul Steele; sister, Margaret Cheetham; and many other family members and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Peter Angello.

Per Mary's wishes, cremation will take place. Visitation will be Saturday, July 16, 2022, from 11 a.m. until the memorial service at 1 p.m. at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave., Sandusky. The Rev. Ken Hiser will officiate.
