Mary Katherine "Katie" Zuck, 94, of Sandusky, passed away Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023, at MetroHealth Medical Center, Cleveland, after a brief illness.
Katie was born Oct. 23, 1928, in Marion, to Owen Leroy Baldauf and Helen P. (Fletcher) Baldauf. In 1946, she graduated from Harding High School in Marion and later earned a BS in Education from Bowling Green State University.
In 1949, she married James M. Zuck, also of Marion. They had a long and happy marriage, filled with love and laughter.
Katie was an active substitute teacher for both the Perkins and Margaretta School Districts., President of the Garden Club for several years, and served as President of the Women's Auxiliary at Sandusky Yacht Club in 2006. She was also a member of Sandusky Sailing Club and was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Katie volunteered extensively for Meals on Wheels, Erie County Senior Center, and Merry-Go-Round Museum.
Katie enjoyed many hobbies, interests, and pursuits. She was an avid gardener and also enjoyed sewing, cooking, and traveling. Recently, she regained an interest in playing bridge and enjoyed playing with many friends. She was a voracious reader, often reading one book per week.
After substitute teaching for many years, Katie became a real estate agent for Strayer Real Estate and enjoyed a successful and fulfilling career, retiring after 15 years.
She is survived by three children, Linda Kohut of Denver, Colorado, Timothy Zuck (Colleen) of Huron, and Mari of Littleton, Colorado; nine grandchildren, Brandy (Rodney) Save, Spencer (Sarah) Zuck, Mason (Kelsey) Zuck, Cameron Zuck, Alexandra Zuck, Cristina (Ed), Bond and Max Lachowyn, Katherine Ryan, and Rachel Ryan; five great-grandchildren; and dear nephews, Jeff, Mark, and Robert Goyer.
Katie was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband of 57 years, James Zuck; son, Christopher Zuck; sister, Dorothy Goyer; two sons-in-law, Dan Kohut and Greg Ryan (both of Denver); later in life companion, Frank Hafner; and many close friends and other relatives.
Following a private memorial service, she will be interred at Marion Cemetery. Katie's celebration of life will be 3-6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, 2023, at Sandusky Yacht Club, 529 E. Water Street, Sandusky.
