Michael Byrd Obituary

Michael A. Byrd

Jul 14, 1962 - Dec 11, 2022

Blacklick

Michael Andre' Byrd, residing in Blacklick, Ohio, was born July 14, 1962 to Charlie L. and Frankie A.(Witherspoon) Byrd and transitioned from this life Sunday, Dec. 11, 2022.

Michael was raised in Sandusky and attended Sandusky Public Schools. He graduated from high school in 1980. Michael joined U.S Air Force in 1980 from which he was honorably discharged in 1986.

Michael was a former member of St. Stephen AME Church in Sandusky where he was a member of the Usher Board, Junior Choir and the YPD. He was employed at Wilberforce University as Administrative Assistant to the Vice-President of Student Affairs, the late Willie J. Young Sr., who became one of his dearest and most trusted friends and mentor. Michael retired from Honda of America with over 25 years of service. He was an avid fan of Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Cleveland Guardians. Michael loved music - "Funk" music to be exact! He was a huge fan of George Clinton, Parliament-Funkadelic, Bootsy Collins, Cameo, Roger Troutman, and Zapp, just to name a few. He loved all of the Ohio "Funk" bands and because of that, he took his love of music to another level by taking piano lessons. He played keyboards and used a "talk box" to perform at his church's talent show some years ago. Michael was also learning to play the bass guitar.

Michael leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Charlie Jr. and Frankie Byrd; beloved wife of 16 years, Tamara A. (Brown) Byrd; sons, Andre'LaMarr Byrd, Marlon Thomas Byrd (Shonna, whom Michael called his only daughter), Damondre and Andrew Moultrie, and Prescott Brown.

Michael was "Baba" to grandchildren whom he loved dearly, Nevae'h, Ke'Juan, Seonna, and Mi'Yah Byrd, Isaiah Thompson, twins Karma and Karmony Byrd, Jayvon, Elijah, Kayce, and Kai Moultrie, Armoni Clark, and Asa Moultrie. He is also survived by his siblings, Charlesia (Reverend Dr. Eric) Brown, Carlos L. (Vanessa) Byrd, and Derrick S. Byrd; nephew, Bryce A. Byrd; aunts, Muriel (Alvin Sr.) Hart, Tessie Wall, and Vivian (Robert) Thompson; godchildren, Jasmyn Bourn, Indria Singleton, and Julian Johnson Jr.; lifetime friends, Gerald (Joey) Sizemore, Gayle Short, Darryl Duffie, Cicely Cole, Jeffrey King, Shawn Lawhorn, and Kellie Sinclair; and host of other friends and relatives including the Witherspoon and Rushing families.

Waiting to welcome Michael home are his paternal great-grandparents, Joseph and Sarah Neal; maternal great-grandparents, John Henry and Amanda Scott; paternal grandparents, Charlie Sr. and Sarah Byrd; maternal grandparents, Willie and Georgia Witherspoon; nephew, Ryan Carlos Byrd; special and much-loved cousin, Kim Thompson; and father-in-law, Rev. Curtis A. Brown.

Friends may call 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, 2022, until the time of Michael's funeral at 12 p.m. at Eagles Nest Church, 2126 Pipe St., Sandusky. Burial will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. American Legion Post 83 and V.F.W. Post 2529 Honor Guards will provide the military tribute.

Jesus. Byrd Man, I didn't know. I can't believe it! Miss Tammy, I'm so sorry. Condolences to your family, friends & community. Byrd Man was a fellow USAF warrior and a dear friend. I already miss chatting, texting, and laughing with him--a lot--about sports, politics, our Uncle Sam days & more. Godspeed, warrior. RIP
