Michael Alfred Eckhardt, 74, residing in Norwalk, passed away Wednesday morning, July 27, 2022, at Gaymont Nursing Home following a brief illness.
Michael was born Nov. 23, 1947, in Sandusky, to the late Alfred John and Mary (Taylor) Eckhardt.
Michael graduated from Sandusky High School in 1965. He was a veteran of the Army, who proudly served his country in the Vietnam War and received a National Defense Service Medal, and Vietnam Service and Campaign Medals. Michael worked in medical technology. He worked at North Coast Clinical Lab after moving from Firelands Hospital, where he was a medical technician in the lab for 30 years. Michael was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was a life-time member of both Norwalk VFW and Sandusky AMVETS, and member of American Legion Post #83 and Norwalk Eagles. In his spare time, he enjoyed traveling, especially cruises, biking, golfing, and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Michael is survived by his daughter, Melanie (Matthew Jacksich) Eckhardt of Sandusky; granddaughters, Grace Bauman and Piper Jacksich; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his brother, Stephen Eckhardt.
Friends may call 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2022, at the funeral home. Pastor Wally Gilbert will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 83. Please wear your favorite team jersey!
