Michael E. Metroka, DVM, 63, of Sandusky, passed into eternal life Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022. Mike will join his parents, the late Robert and Joyce Metroka, way too soon!

Mike grew up in the Cleveland area and became the youngest individual to achieve the honor of becoming an Eagle Scout. Mike was an honors graduate of John Marshall High School Class of 1977 and a 1981 Summa Cum Laude graduate of The Ohio State University with a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Med Animal Science. Mike continued his education at The Ohio State University for Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1985. The next year he purchased "The Animal Hospital" from Doctor Ivan Amerine, which he has operated as "Metroka Animal Hospital" for the past 36 years. In 2009, Dr. Metroka was recognized for operating the longest continuously running Veterinary Hospital in the country, which at that time was 75 years. Dr. Metroka served as Vice President on the Board of Trustees for Humane Society of Erie County.

Mike is survived by his wife, Ying Wang; children, Meridyth "Mimi" Boone (Thomas), Michael Metroka (Janice), and Victoria Metroka; and grandchildren, Charlotte and Briar Boone, and Raylynn and Corbyn Metroka.

When not spending time at his clinic, Mike enjoyed life on the lake with friends and family boating, fishing, water skiing, and of course, Cedar Point. Dr. Metroka will be greatly missed by not only his wife, children, and grandchildren, but also his numerous friends, clients, and animals he cared for during his career.

Friends and family may gather to remember Mike from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 3, 2022, at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, Sandusky Chapel, 2001 Columbus Ave.
