Paul Hennessy Obituary

Paul L. Hennessy

Sep 10, 1923 - Feb 17, 2024

Sandusky

Paul L. "Sarge" Hennessy, 100, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully late Saturday morning, Feb. 17, 2024, at Ohio Veterans Home, Sandusky.

Paul was born Sept. 10, 1923, in Bellefontaine, the son of John Francis and Edna R. (Martin) Hennessy. Paul was a veteran, having reached the rank of Staff Sergeant while he served honorably in U.S. Army during World War II and later in U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a Senior Clerk at Sandusky Post Office for many years, retiring in Sept., 1983.

Paul will be remembered by his family for how he would enjoy to take a daily five-mile walk, rain or shine, early in the morning in the dark on the streets of Sandusky. He also had volunteered for many years at the Senior Center where he would help deliver to those receiving "Meals on Wheels."

Paul was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, American Legion Post #83 (life member), and V.F.W. Post #2529.

He is survived by three great-nephews, Jack (Becky) Smith Jr., Jeff (Elayne) Smith, and Jerry (Valerie) Smith; several great-great- and great-great-great nieces and nephews; nephew, Jack Smith Sr.; and Rita Ambriati; and special friends, Greg (Margie) Mees, Fred Tripp, Randy Geiger, Paul Birktoft, and other friends.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Martha LaLonde; brother, Jay Hennessy; niece, June Ann Smith; and great-nephew, Jay Smith.

It was his wish to be cremated.

Visitation for family and friends will be 9:15 a.m. Monday, Feb. 26, 2024, until the time of Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 429 Central Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Prashanth Kumar will officiate. He also wished to have his cremains buried with his parents at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Sandusky. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #83 and V.F.W. Post #2529.

His family requested that memorial contributions may be made in his memory to "Meals on Wheels" or Erie County Senior Center, 620 E. Water Street, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870.

Arrangements have been entrusted to David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.
