Philip Cloud Obituary

Philip Cloud

Mar 6, 1953 - Mar 5, 2026

Bellevue

Philip Allen Cloud, 72, of Bellevue, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family Thursday, March 5, 2026. Born March 6, 1953, in Bellevue, Phil lived a life defined by faith, humor, and a deep connection to the community he called home. He was a proud husband and father who took great joy in his family and the life he built with them.

A 1971 graduate of Bellevue High School, Phil was the first captain of the school's cross-country team and excelled at track and field, both of which led to a lifelong support of school athletics.

Phil served for seven years as a Sergeant in the Ohio National Guard. He worked hard at Norfolk Southern, supporting his family every day, and retired after 40 years. He was a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was known there for his laugh and sense of humor.

Phil served as a track and cross-country official for more than 30 years and a volleyball official for 10. He deeply enjoyed supporting and mentoring hundreds of young athletes over the years, often sharing their success stories with his friends and family.

Phil was never one to sit still. In retirement, he continued serving the community by caring for the Bellevue Cemetery, a responsibility he took great pride in. He was also well known around town for helping neighbors, especially the elderly. He mowed the lawns of a dozen homes each summer and shoveled their drives each winter, quietly returning home when the work was done before he could be thanked.

Phil's Catholic faith was a steady and guiding presence throughout his life. He rarely missed Sunday Mass and believed deeply in living his faith through humility, service, and caring for others. Faith wasn't something he discussed at length. He preferred to show it through his actions.

Phil loved a good challenge. It wasn't enough to simply enjoy gardening - he had to grow 800-pound pumpkins and supply the entire neighborhood with fresh produce each season. He couldn't just ride his bike as a fun hobby; he had to cycle across the state of Ohio. 112 miles rollerblading in one day. A hike to the top of Yosemite's Vernal Falls was "faster than anyone before." The list goes on.

And he loved adventure and travel. He skied across 13 states with his family and close friends, Paul and Kay. He explored Alaska, New England, Thailand, Mexico, California, and many parks and preserves across the Midwest.

Those who knew Phil remember his booming laugh, his quick wit, and his almost sneaky sense of humor that could catch people off guard in the best way. He taught his family that laughter truly is the best medicine.

Phil is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Julie Borchardt Cloud; sons, Bryan Cloud and Kevin Cloud (Thuan Ngo); granddaughters, Alysse and Ava; siblings, Stephen Cloud (Cindy), Rick Cloud, and Ruth Fries (Greg); sisters-in-law, Jan Smith and Marylin Borchardt; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Eugenia Cloud; his son, Jeffrey William Cloud; his sister, Mary Wittes (Ernie); and brothers-in-law, Charles Smith and Richard Borchardt; and sister-in-law, Jackie.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Glioblastoma Research Foundation at glioblastoma foundation.org

Phil lived a full and generous life, always ready to lend a hand, take on the next big challenge, and share a laugh that could fill a room. He will be missed by many.

Friends will be received from 3-8 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2026, at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue.
