Phyllis Eillen O'Hara, 87, of Huron, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2025, in Brandon, Florida, at HCA Brandon Hospital due to surgical complications.
She was born August 23, 1938, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Floyd Davis Smith and Cecile Arveda (Henry) Smith of Smithville, Pennsylvania. Phyllis grew up in Smithville and was married to Ernest William O'Hara Jr. of Smithport, Pennsylvania. Phyllis and Ernest enjoyed 67 years of marriage before his passing in June 2024.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest W. O'Hara Jr.; and her daughter, Trisha Lee (O'Hara) McCallister of Dallas, Texas.
Phyllis is survived by her sister, Judith Kay Barnard of Vermillion; three daughters, Trudi (O'Hara) Baaske and husband, Jon of Huron, Leslie O'Hara, retired Lieutenant Commander of Brandon, Florida, and Susan O'Hara of Pensacola, Florida; seven grandchildren, and a great-grandchild. Grandchildren include, Kennedy Jean Gilbert Baaske of Cleveland, Fredric John Luke of Germantown, Maryland, Andrew Spencer Baaske of Cleveland, Emily Ann O'Hara, of Pensacola, Florida, Lieutenant Brynn Elizabeth Baaske of Whidbey Island, Washington, Katherine Marie McCallister of Brandon, Florida, and Seymour McCallister of Orlando, Florida. Her great-grandson, Callum Freeman, resides with his mother, Kennedy Gilbert, in Cleveland.
Phyllis was a member of the Huron, Ohio, United Methodist Church and was a long-time resident of both Huron, Ohio, Indiana and Pennsylvania. Phyllis and her husband, Ernest O'Hara, owned property and a family cabin in Smithport, Pennsylvania, and spent a great deal of time there. Phyllis was known for her zest for life, adventuresome nature, intelligence, and witty sense of humor. In her youth, she loved reading, sewing, swimming, dogs and horses. Once married, she was a mother, homemaker and excellent cook. She enjoyed swimming, beaches, boating, water skiing, snow skiing, ice skating, cycling and camping. Phyllis raised four daughters and doted on her seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She will be greatly missed.
McCabe Funeral Home, Inc., of Punxsutawney, Penn-sylvania, has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Graveside service will begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Burnside Cemetery. Memorial service and luncheon will follow at 1 p.m. at Steffey Chapel, 1884 Steffy Church Road, Rossiter, PA 15772.
