Richard Gfell Obituary

Richard "Rick" Gfell Jr.

Mar 3, 1961 - Aug 28, 2023

Lake Panasoffkee, FL

Richard "Rick" Gfell, Jr. passed away Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, at his home in Lake Panasoffkee, Florida, from a long illness.

He was born March 3, 1961, in Bellevue, to Richard and Nancy (Dickman) Gfell.

Rick graduated from Monroeville High School in 1979 and Terra Technical Community College in 1981 with a degree in Business and Marketing. He owned Lorain Quickprint & Copy in Lorain/Amherst, where he enjoyed meeting new customers with whom he made life-long friends with.

Rick was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Roby Masonic Lodge in Monroeville, and 1st Lutheran Church in Inverness, Florida, when he moved to Florida.

In Rick's earlier years, he was a drummer in a band that he formed with his brother, Bret, and their friends. Rick loved the beach, boating, camping, enjoying a good lightning storm/shooting stars with his daughters (on the roof of the garage), golf cart rides with his dog, Penny, and stand up comedians. He also really enjoyed his friends in Ohio and his new friends in Florida, whom he enjoyed going to dinner and listening to live music in the squares with.

Rick is survived by his high school sweetheart and loving wife of 41 years, Sharon (Darling), whom he married Jan. 8, 1982; daughters, Jennifer (Gavin) Schenk and Melissa (Christopher) Leimbach; grandchildren, Brycen, Daniel, Breanna, Alex, Evan, Hunter, and honorary granddaughter, Destiny; parents, Richard and Nancy Gfell; brother, Bret (Bonnie) Gfell; and many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much.

Visitation will be 12 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, 2023, until the time of Rick's celebration of life services at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 121 W. Broad St., Monroeville.

Rick's family invites you to join them for a luncheon to continue celebrating and telling your favorite story and comment of him at Cottonwood Cove Campground Pavilion, 330 Peru Center Rd., Monroeville, immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, please send any monetary donations to Monroeville Athletic Boosters "Track Project," P.O. Box 661, Monroeville, Ohio, 44847.

Hello, This is Jacqueline Roberts. I go by Jackie. I am Liz Scheid's and Jackie Desmond's friend. Liz and Jackie Desmond both graduated with Rick. I have known Liz Scheid as I have worked with her for almost 15 1/2 years at Walmart and from my mom that passed away in 2009 of a battle of inflammatory breast cancer. My mom used to work at Walmart in 2003 through 2008. I have known Jackie Desmond from going for walks through my neighborhood as she lives on the same street as I do. Her husband, Gary, is a piano player and "The Goodwill Piano Man." I play piano too! My mom was also a piano player! It is very nice that Liz Scheid and Jackie Desmond both remember Rick even if it has been many years since they all graduated. I pray for Rick Gfell and family! He is with us spiritually! I know what people are going through as I have been through the same thing when my parents and grandparents passed away all at different times! You never get over grief, but you learn how to cope with it. I really enjoyed reading the article of what Rick liked doing! Think of all the wonderful memories you have had with him!

Hey my friend I really appreciated our friendship we had over the years. I remember when I met you I walked in to your print shop and that was many years ago. You were a true friend. I´m so glad we got to hang out together at the beach a few months back. My sincere condolences to your family. RIP
