Richard Lawrie Obituary

Richard Ernest Lawrie

Jan 2, 1950 - Jun 10, 2024

Dayton

Richard E. Lawrie, born January 2, 1950 in Norwalk, Ohio, died on June 10, 2024 in Dayton, Ohio following a short illness.

Born and raised in Norwalk, Ohio, Rich called Bellevue, Ohio home for most of his adult life. Athletics were a big part of his life. He wrestled, threw shot put, and played baseball, basketball, and football as a student at Norwalk High School. Rich was an avid fan of Bellevue Redmen athletics and could quote sports statistics from high schools throughout the state.

Rich dedicated his entire banking career to Croghan Colonial Bank, formerly The Union Bank, where he built caring relationships with his co-workers and customers for nearly 40 years.

Rich loved music, especially Dan Fogelberg. Some of his favorite places in the world include Lake Erie, the Huron Boat Basin, Buxton, North Carolina, "The Shoe" (Ohio Stadium), and anywhere his children were. He was an expert tour guide knowing all the best places to visit, including The Cedar Point Chaussee, Lovers Lane in Norwalk, and the Marblehead Lighthouse. Rich loved vanilla ice cream, sauerkraut, chunky applesauce, and ketchup- but not all together. He had a penchant for nicknames, which he bestowed upon his favorite people. Rich was preceded in death by his parents Herbert & Catherine Lawrie, his wife Carol Sue Lawrie, and sister Linda (John) Graham. He is survived by two sisters, Marilynn (Robert) Tener of Westerville, Ohio, and Kathy (David) Buske of Kennesaw, Georgia.

Rich was a beloved, strong, and respected father of Rebecca (George) Ray, of Seattle, Washington, Sarah (William) Brown of Dayton, Ohio, Andrew (Jenna) Lawrie of Dublin, Ohio, and Daniel (Emily) Lawrie of Seattle, Washington. In addition, Rich's legacy lives on in his grandchildren - Emily, Carlie, Colin, Catie, Kenzie, Grant, Maddie, Harper, and Brennen. Jack and Stephanie Larimer and Karen and Steve Schneider embraced Rich in life and grieve his death.

In keeping with his unselfish nature, Rich elected an anatomical donation to his beloved Ohio State University for use in research and education.

A celebration of life will be held on August 4, 2024 from 1-4 pm at the Bellevue Society for the Arts, 205 Maple St, Bellevue, OH 44811. In lieu of flowers, Rich's family has chosen to fund a college scholarship in his memory. Donations can be made to the Bellevue Alumni Association in Memory of Richard Lawrie: PO Box 191, Bellevue, OH 44811.
