Richard L. Persing, 85, residing in Sandusky, passed away Wednesday afternoon, May 1, 2024, at home.
Richard was born Jan. 3, 1939, in Sunbury, Pennsylvania, to James A. and Isabella F. (Barnhart) Persing.
Richard retired from U.S. Navy, where he served during the Vietnam War and worked with Ground Level Solutions in Sandusky and finally retired in 2013. Richard was a member of VFW Post 2529 and American Legion Post 83. He enjoyed watching Cleveland Guardians, reading, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Laura Persing of Sandusky; grandchildren, LeAnn (Richard) Potts of Hudson, Katy (Zac) Crawford of Sandusky, and Jacob Dickman of Sandusky; great-grandchildren, Triton and Anakin; 12 nieces and nephews; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife in 2015, Ireta A. (Masteau) Persing; son in 2023, Brian Persing; and three brothers, William, James, and John Persing.
Visitation for friends will be 10 a.m. Thursday, May 9, 2024, until the time of Richard's memorial service at 11 a.m. at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, with Pastor Wally Gilbert presiding.

I am sending you my deepest condolences. Red was a wonderful person. I was able to get to know both him and Ireta through Ground Level Solutions. Ireta shared quilting tips. He was a hard worker and very devoted to his kids and grandkids. He will be missed but I am so happy that he and Ireta (with Brian) can be together again. I hope you find peace in that as well.
