Ronald Bauman Obituary

Ronald Charles Bauman

Jul 16, 1939 - Feb 22, 2025

Marblehead

Ronald Charles Bauman, 85, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Saturday, February 22, 2025, at Otterbein Senior Living in Marblehead. He went to be with his Lord and his beloved wife of 61 years, Peg.

Ron was born in Holland, Michigan, July 16, 1939, to Charles and Elizabeth Bauman. He was nine years old when his family moved to Port Clinton, and his dad purchased the Catawba Market. He was a proud graduate of PCHS, proud to have attended THE Ohio State University, and proud to have served in the U.S. Army.

Work was a huge part of Ron's life. As owner and operator of Catawba Market with his dad, Charlie, and then his wife, Peg, Ron spent over 30 years serving the community there. It truly was his life; the hours were long, but it was a second home to his whole family, the employees, and the customers who shopped there. His work left little time for hobbies and fun outside of work, but Ron managed to get away to enjoy bowling and golfing leagues with friends over the years. He always made time for Cleveland and Ohio State sports and was an avid and dedicated fan. Ron was also a lifelong member of the Elks Lodge, with membership for 64 years and a past Exalted Ruler. He also was named an honorary member of the Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department for the support and helping hand he gave to the department. When Ron and Peg closed the market, he went to work at Toft Dairy and was as dedicated to the business as he had been to his own.

Ron will be remembered more for "who he was" rather than "what he did." His journey on this earth was one of kindness and integrity. An honest businessman that you could trust. A quiet guy who gave second chances and never held a grudge. A boss that made you feel like family. A friend who always had a kind word and a smile. A patient that loved and appreciated his caregivers. A compassionate and loving father who taught you how to treat people and how to treat yourself. A generous grandpa, Bompa, who offered support and showed his silly side. His passing has left a void in the hearts of family, friends, and so many more whose lives he touched.

Ron will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Susan (Jim) Dole and Karen (Rick) Buchman; five blessed grandchildren, Adam (Daya), Liz (Irene), Amy (Mike), Blake (Tony), and Kara (Kyle); as well as three great-grandchildren, Remy, Luca, and Hazel. Also surviving are his sisters, Babs Meisler and Carol (Bill) Dreher.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Elizabeth (Reuman) Bauman; his wife, Peggy Ann Bauman; and brothers-in-law, Eugene Meisler, Gilbert Newton, and Kenny Newton.

Family will be receiving visitors beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 202, at Gerner, Wolf, and Walker Funeral Home in Port Clinton. An Elks service will begin at 11:45 a.m., and the funeral service will follow, beginning at 12 p.m. Interment will be at Catawba Cemetery.

In remembrance, donations can be made to Catawba Island Volunteer Fire Department or Wounded Warrier Project.
