Ronald Hartman Obituary

Ronald Porter Hartman

Aug 3, 1941 - Dec 12, 2023

Bellevue

Ronald Porter Hartman, 82, of Bellevue, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, at Cleveland Clinic.

He was born Aug. 3, 1941, in Coudersport, Pennsylvania, the son of Ralph Porter and Norma R. (Huster) Hartman.

Ronald graduated from Franklin University and received his degree in drafting in the '60s. He served in U.S. Army Reserves for six years, loved adventure, and spent his youth scuba diving, riding his motorcycle across the country, skiing, archery, and camping.

He was a dedicated employee at American Baler Company in Bellevue for 50 years, starting in the drafting department and was promoted to customer service and started the quality control department. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Bellevue, a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus, and a companion of the Precious Blood.

Ronald enjoyed helping others and spent his time volunteering with Bellevue School System, mentoring struggling readers and teaching youth about God. Regardless of the need, he was known to help strangers and friends alike. He was passionate about animals (especially birds and fish), recycling and picking up trash, and scouting the neighborhood to kill unsuspecting weeds and poison ivy. There was rarely a baked good, confection, or ice cream he could turn down. Ronald loved machines and history and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with his family and community. Ronald grew a garden and later in life took an interest in cooking.

Ronald is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda S. (Opper) Hartman, whom he married Nov. 13, 1976, at St. Peter's Church in Huron; five children, Sarah (Hartman) and Scott Gross, Eric Hartman, Bryan Hartman and Cassie (Hale) Hartman, Elizabeth Hartman and Gene Wilson, and Jennie (Hartman) and Chris Frazier; and grandchildren, AJ, Zachary, and Meredith Gross, Emma Hartman, and Scout and Lark Frazier.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Stuart H. Hartman.

Visitation for friends will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, at Foos & Foos Funeral Service, 151 Yorkshire Place, Bellevue. The Rosary will be recited at 1:45 p.m. and Knights of Columbus Chalice Service will begin at 7:45 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023, at Immaculate Conception Church, 231 E. Center Street, Bellevue. Burial will be at Bellevue Catholic Cemetery at a later date.

My heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the Hartman family; Linda, Eric, Bryan, Lizzie and Jenny. A lot of time and space has passed, and I am sorry for that. Ron was a one of a kind man who could always make anyone smile regardless of their circumstances. The world lost a very good man.
