Ronald M. McCarthy, 89, of Milan, passed away early Monday morning, April 24, 2023, at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born March 7, 1934, in Sandusky, the son of Leo and Laura Irene (Sterbeck) McCarthy, who preceded him in death.

Ron was a 1952 graduate of Sandusky High School and served in U.S. Air Force for four years. Ronald retired from the Sandusky Ford plant in 2000 following over 30 years of service as an inspector. He was a member of UAW Local 1216, AMVETS Post #17, and American Legion Post 83. Ron enjoyed Lionel trains, his Ohio sports teams, and spending time with his family and friends.

Ron is survived by his wife, Karen M. McCarthy (Boos), whom he married Nov. 18, 1961; two daughters, Kelly McCarthy of Norwalk and Shannon (Richard) Nevels of Indiana; son, Shawn (Elizabeth) McCarthy of Washington D.C.; six grandchildren, Benjamin, Lydia, Elizabeth and Anna Nevels, and Fiona and Finn McCarthy; sister, Donna (Roger) Hudson of Douglasville, Georgia; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2023, until the time of Ronald's funeral at 12 p.m. at Groff Funeral Home and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, Ohio, 44870. Ron's son-in-law, Richard Nevels, will officiate. Burial will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.

Ron was proud to have served his country and his service continued throughout his life in his benevolence towards others. He cared deeply for his family and friends and looked forward to visits from them.
