Sandusky
Ronald "Ron" Owen Schoder, 89, of Sandusky, passed away early Sunday morning, Nov. 17, 2024, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.
Born Sept. 9, 1935, in Crestline, the son of Franklin Charles and Mildred Eleanor (Parsons) Schoder. He was a 1953 graduate of Crestline High School and later attended The Ohio State University. Ron was a veteran having served honorably in the Army National Guard of Ohio.
Ron worked as a draftsman and engineer for 43 years at Sandusky Foundry and Machine Company (later known as Sandusky International) before retiring in 2001.
Ron was very dedicated to his family and grandchildren, often babysitting the grandchildren after his retirement and was always concerned for their well-being as they graduated and attended college.
In all aspects of his life, Ron will be remembered for how detail oriented he was, whether it be his work, projects at his home, tending to his yard, or caring for his garden; everything had to be just right! Ron especially loved decorating the house for Christmas and his ornament collection.
Over the years, Ron was a passionate collector of model trains and radio-controlled boats. He was also a member of the A.M.Y.A. (the American Model Yachting Association) and a past director of the association. Ron was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church.
Ron is survived by his wife of 63 years, Shirley W. (Scheifley) Schoder, whom he married Oct. 14, 1961; his two sons, Curt (Kathleen) and Matt (Christina) Schoder, both of Sandusky; his four granddaughters, Maria, Diana, Elizabeth and Abigail and his beloved rescue dog FiFi.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024, at David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky with the Rev. Michael C. Conklin officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery, Sandusky. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post 83 and V.F.W. Post 2529.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the caregivers of Home Instead Health Care for the compassion and love they have shown the family, enabling Ron to remain home as his health declined and honoring his wishes.
