Clyde

Ronald Gene "Ron" Sherer, 83, of Clyde, passed away Monday, Aug. 5, 2024, at Fremont Memorial Hospital.

He was born Aug. 14, 1940, in Van Wert, to George "Earl" and Bernadine (Baker) Sherer. Ron graduated from Van Wert High School in 1958 and then began his love of academia at Bowling Green State University where he received both his Bachelor and Master Degrees in Communications. He also received a diploma in Biblical Studies later in life.

He married Cathy E. Jones on May 18, 1990, in Niagara Falls, New York, and she preceded him in death July 10, 2018. Ron worked in frozen food delivery sales, was a top salesman for Sears Home Improvements, and was a professor of communications at BGSU Firelands for over 30 years.

Ron had a passion for theatre and directed many plays at Harlequins in Sandusky including Lend Me a Tenor, Cheaper by the Dozen, and Death of a Salesman which won state awards. He was a long-time member of AA and very involved in the recovery community.

He was a member of the Church of Christ and loved singing in the Voracious Voices of Victory choir. He also enjoyed attending the National Prayer Clinic in Virginia. Reading (especially ministry and science fiction), cooking, listening to jazz music, and traveling were all interests he enjoyed.

He is survived by his daughters, Kirsten (Brian) Cooper of Ellijay, Georgia, Kimberly Wheelock of Sandusky, and Catherine (Jordan) Rhoad of Fremont; granddaughters, Jillian (Jon) Juergens, Jocelyn Tritch, Josephine Rhoad, and Juniper Rhoad; grandson, Ian Sherer; and great-granddaughter, Aria Juergens.

Ron was preceded in death by his parents; and wife, Catherine Sherer.
