Roy Joseph Prewitt, 78, of Castalia passed away peacefully Tuesday, May 6, 2025 at his residence.

He was born May 6, 1947, in Sandusky to the late Cecil Franklin and Margaret (Vasey) Prewitt.

Roy Proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1966-1970. He then obtained his associate's degree in law enforcement from Lorain Community College. He was hired May 31, 1971, by the Sandusky Police Department. He spent 27 years in the agency's patrol division and detective bureau, and then he continued to serve the department as a reserve officer for an additional 21 years, officially retiring in 2019 ending his 48-year career with Sandusky police.

He was a member of United Congregation in Castalia, Fraternal Order of the Police Lake Lodge No. 17, AMVETS, and American Legion. He was an avid camper and traveler. He enjoyed going on cruises and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his son, Chad (Kristen) Prewitt; his daughters, Anna Prewitt and Audrey Collins; four grandchildren, Briar, Danielle, Wesley, and Noah; his sisters, Margaret "Peg" Parks and Patricia "Pat" Nixon; his special niece, and longtime caregiver, Kimberley (Kenneth) Trimarche; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Including his parents, he was preceded by his loving wife, Marilyn (Smith) Prewitt, in 2020.

A service by Fraternal Order of Police and military honors will be at 3 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2025, at Faith Church, 1320 E. Strub Rd. Sandusky, Ohio 44870. Visitation will follow until time of funeral service at 6 p.m. with Pastor John Adams officiating. Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, Sandusky, Ohio 44870 is assisting the family with arrangements.
