Sandra Dickman Obituary

Sandra L. Dickman

Feb 10, 1942 - Dec 1, 2023

Sandusky

Sandra L. "Sandy" Dickman, 81, of Sandusky, passed away Friday, Dec. 1, 2023, at Hope Hospice House in Cape Coral, Florida.

She was born Feb. 10, 1942, in Dayton. Sandy was a graduate of Xenia High School and a veteran, having served in U.S. Navy in 1960. Sandy and her late husband, Leon, owned and operated two I.G.A. grocery stores. One was in Xenia in 1974 during the tornado that destroyed a large portion of Xenia. The I.G.A. was the only grocery store standing in Xenia, a miracle from above. Later, the couple owned and operated another I.G.A. in St. Marys. Sandy also sold Tupperware for many years. She loved that Leon would assist her in the business by helping set-up, keep her company, and often sell the products.

Sandy enjoyed swimming, watching old movies, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. She was also known to love dancing, playing pool, and had an enthusiasm for life. She was a member of The Chapel and enjoyed the Saturday evening services. Sandy volunteered at O.V.H., Stein Hospice, Sandusky Library, and Erie County Senior Center.

Sandy is survived by her oldest daughter, Deborah (Steve) Jenkins of N. Fort Myers, Florida; son, Jack (Lee) Dickman of Rathdrum, Idaho; youngest daughter, Nora "Suzy" (Paul) Warrer of Sandusky, formerly Daniel Harpel; six grandchildren, Ashley (Jenkins) Ohlemacher, Chelsey (Jenkins) Ponzi, Brett Dickman, Cearra (Dickman) Kunsel, and Michael and Joshua Harpel; and 12 great-grandchildren, Gianna, Chase, Dominic, Hailee, Alyssa, Tiernie, Ambrielle, Brody, Braylin, Aurora, Bentley, and Brendan.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Nora Edna (Jenkins) Kidd on Feb. 15, 1995; and husband, Leon H. Dickman on Nov. 13, 2006.

At Sandy's request, there will be no visitation and cremation has taken place. The family will have a private graveside service for Sandy and Leon at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, later this year.

Sandy's celebration of life will be in May, 2024, at The Chapel, 4444 Galloway Rd., Sandusky, Ohio, 44870. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter, 480 W. Dussel Dr., Suite 150, Maumee, Ohio, 43537, or American Diabetes Association, Independence Office, 4500 Rockside Rd., Suite 440, Independence, Ohio, 44131.

Arrangements have been entrusted to David F Koch Funeral & Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.

Sandy was a sweet, sweet lady. Sadly I didn't get the privilege to of growing up with her as my aunt but was blessed later in life. Her brother Jim was my step daddy and was so amazing to my Momma. Every time we all got together it was all smiles and laughter. I was so excited when I found her address in my Mom's things but so sad to see she has departed this life as well. I pray they are all 4 in heaven laughing together
