Susan K. Mathews, 62, of Boulder City, Nevada, and formerly of Clyde, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, after a courageous battle with complications from pancreatic cancer. Susan passed peacefully in the loving care of Nathan Adelson - Swenson Inpatient Hospice in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Susan was born Dec. 16, 1960, in Fremont, the daughter of Charles and Anna B. Mathews. Susan was a 1979 graduate of Clyde High School. Susan pursued a career as a nurse, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Bowling Green State University. She furthered her career in the healthcare field, earning a Masters of Business Administration from Tiffin University. Susan was employed at Boulder City Hospital in Nevada as Assistant Chief Nursing Officer and was honored to hold the credentials behind her name as MBA, BSN, RN, CRRN, and FACHE. She worked hard to meet the criteria to advance to Fellow status in the American College of Healthcare Executives.
Susan loved life and lived every day to the fullest. She loved to travel and read and was an avid sports fan. Her favorite sports were following The Ohio State Buckeyes football, Cleveland Guardians baseball, Duke men's basketball, and NASCAR races.
She is survived by her sister, Carol (Ron) Ray of Clyde; sister-in-law, Kathy Mathews of Clyde; nephews, Eric Mathews of Sandusky, Michael (Mary Beth) Getty of Indiana, and Andrew (Laura) Ray of Michigan; nieces, Tracy Childers of Bellevue and Jennifer (Billy) Kling of Kentucky; special friends, Cynthia Kosik, Bryan Kosik, and Michele Hancock of Nevada; and many wonderful staff members of Boulder City Hospital with special kindness extended to Susan by Andre Pastian, CNO.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Charlotte Ann Ludban; and brother, Steven Mathews.
It was Susan's wishes to be cremated.
Giddens Memorial Chapel in Nevada assisted with those arrangements.
It was Susan's wishes to be buried back in Ohio.
Mitchell-Auxter Funeral Home is assisting with graveside services which will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2023, at McPherson Cemetery, Clyde.
