Susan Olsen Murray
Jan 20, 1953 - Nov 17, 2025
Sandusky, Ohio
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Susan Olsen Murray. She was a woman of boundless energy and a relentless sense of giving. She lit up every room she entered. Susan was born January 20, 1953, in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York. She was proud to say that it was the same day Dwight D. Eisenhower was inaugurated. She passed away Monday, November 17, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones at home in Sandusky, at the age of 72. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mary Olsen.
Susan graduated from Island Trees High School in 1971. After her graduation, she attended University of Dayton, where she met the love of her life, John Murray Sr. They were married October 11, 1975, the day Saturday Night Live premiered, which she loved to tell people. John and Susan made it to their 50th wedding anniversary, where they danced to their song "You Make Me Feel Brand New". Susan moved to Sandusky, in 1979, where she and John raised three children, Leslie, John, and Tim Murray. She was a reading teacher at Saints Peter and Paul School. She received her master's degree in education from Ashland University. Susan was a founding member of The Boys & Girls Club of Erie County. She was on the Kinship board, a member of Current Review and more social clubs and book clubs than could possibly be counted. She made everyone she met feel seen and loved. She was a true people person, and if you are reading this, she likely knew more details about you than you possibly knew yourself. Always prioritizing positivity over pragmatism and putting others before herself, whether as a friend, a spouse, a mother or a grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, John Murray Sr.; her children, Leslie Murray (Alan Griffiths), John Murray Jr., and Tim Murray (Michael Bullard); and her grandchildren, Heather (Liam Davis), William, Hugh and Ella Griffiths. As well as her siblings, Kathy Wagner (Paul Wagner) and Raymond Olsen Jr. (Diane Olsen) and more nieces and nephews, godchildren and adopted godchildren than any abacus could calculate, though she would likely point out she could name them all and their birthdays.
Her funeral will be at one of her favorite places, Sandusky Yacht Club, 529 E. Water Street, Sandusky, Ohio 44870, at 11 a.m. Monday, November 24, 2025.
