Susan Stacy Obituary

Susan Stacy

Feb 2, 1940 - Jul 12, 2024

Bellevue

Susan Stacy, 84, of Bellevue, passed away peacefully Friday, July 12, 2024, at Stein Hospice surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born Feb. 21, 1940, the daughter of Elizabeth and Matthew Schreiner of Indianapolis, Indiana. Her parents moved their family to Huron and resided at Rye Beach. She lived in a small cottage along the beachfront of Lake Erie shores with her brother, Ray, and sister, Kathy. She shared many fond memories of growing up in Rye Beach with others. It was a carefree adventurous childhood involving friends (Connie, Maria, and Paul) and family with a full cast of Rye Beach characters. She was in the first class to graduate from St. Peter's in Huron. She, along with her friend Maria, stated they laughed their way through eighth grade with Sister Clare who told her students many colorful stories. Sister Clare often asked her "are your teeth for sale?" since she was constantly smiling trying to suppress laughter. She graduated from St. Mary High School in Sandusky.

She had many interests and was a very accomplished person. She loved literature, was an avid gardener, and published many poems and short stories. Much of her poetry was a reflection on childhood memories, jazz, and baseball. She was a kind person and loving mother. Her greatest accomplishment was her children from her first marriage to James Wendt.

She is survived by her children, Bruce (Brenda) Wendt of Cleveland, Michael-Ann (Tim) Cherry of Huron, Julia Wendt of Huron, Elizabeth Wendt of Bellevue, and Benjamin (Jim Bennett) Wendt of Columbus; three grandchildren, Bret Burke of Huron, Carlton Cherry of Huron, and Becca (Andrew) Donovan of Manhattan, Kansas; great-grandchild, Ezekiel Donovan of Manhattan, Kansas; and brother, Ray (Cindy) Schreiner of South Bend, Indiana.

Susan was preceded in death by her kind, loving, and gracious husband, Gary Stacy of Bellevue; beautiful daughter, Rebecca Wendt of Panama City, Florida; and sister and best friend, Kathy (Jim) Ragsdale of South Bend, Indiana.

An intimate family gathering to celebrate Susan's life and legacy will be at a date to be determined.

Foos & Foos Funeral Service, Bellevue, is assisting family with arrangements.

Lastly, in her own words, a paragraph from a poem called "My Homing Pigeon", a reflection of her teenage years in Rye Beach. "But my pigeon heart says "Why go? Always we come back. For don't you remember. It was a spring of hope? You fell in love on the porch swing. Your father planted a garden. And your mother was so young. Her eyes sparkled and snapped." Susan Dale
