Thomas Crockett Obituary

Thomas L. Crockett

Jun 26, 1942 - Feb 7, 2024

Clyde

Thomas L. "Tom" Crockett, 81, of Clyde, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2024, at his home surrounded by family.

Tom was born June 26, 1942, in Fremont, the son of Robert S. and Marie (Homegardner) Crockett.

At just 13 years of age, Tom helped work on turning the farm into a golf course. Then came the dream of fine dining in Clyde as Green Hills Restaurant opened in 1967, working as director of golf by day and host by night. In 1961, Tom got his PGA certification and got the joy of teaching golf. He truly appreciated the customers and had immense pride in watching the family business grow. Then 1984 brought the opening of Woussickett. Along with many hours spent at the family business, Tom also enjoyed hunting and traveling.

In 1994, Tom and Jo discovered a new home in Key West, Florida, where Crockey was born. There, he learned to dive for lobster, trap for stone crab, and enjoy his pontoon boat. He was President of the Seaside Pelican Social Club for 10 years. After retirement in 2010, his beautification of the golf course was his new mission. He enjoyed planting flowers, trimming trees, and tending to details on the course. Tom enjoyed his pool, yard, early morning walks, and making Joanne, his wife of 60 years, breakfast every day.

Tom loved his golfing customers, his Seaside family, and entertaining people, family, friends, guests, and strangers alike.

Tom will be dearly missed!

Tom is survived by his wife, Joanne (Beier) Crockett, whom he married Nov. 28, 1963; three children, Adam (Laurie) Crockett of Clyde, Eric Crockett of Sarasota, Florida, and Heidi (Mark) Maines of Clyde; eight grandchildren, Cody, Abby, Lindsay, Meriah, Heath, Porter, Hayden, and Vivian; four great-grandchildren, Riggin, Colton, Sam, and Violet; and siblings, Jerry Crockett, Barbara Horn, and Judy (John) Rusing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Crockett; and sister, Joyce Taylor.

Visitation for friends will be 1-6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, 2024, at Foos Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 504 E. McPherson Hwy., Clyde, Ohio, 43410. Memorial Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church, 609 Vine St., Clyde, Ohio, 43410.

Memorial donations may be made in Tom's honor to Clyde Back Door Food Pantry, 803 W. McPherson Hwy., Clyde, Ohio, 43410, or Callahan's Kitchen St. Mary Star of the Sea, Key West, Florida.
