Thomas Eugene Schoen, 87, of Elyria, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 7, 2024, at University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center.

He was born July 21, 1936, in Sandusky. Thomas was a high school graduate of Brunnerdale Seminary. He retired from Ford Motor Company in 1999 following 31 years of service working security. He was a member of St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church and was very devoted to his Catholic faith. Thomas had a great sense of humor and brought so much love and fun to every gathering. He treasured spending time with his family, leaving them with many wonderful memories. He will be missed beyond measure. He adored his grandchildren, attended all their sporting events and activities, and took a huge interest in all their lives. He was also an avid Cleveland sports fan.

Thomas' survivors include a daughter, Lisa A. Linden (Charles) of Lorain; two sons, Thomas D. Schoen of Lorain and Todd D. Schoen of Lakeland, Florida; daughter-in-law, Debra A. Schoen of Elyria; grandchildren, Christopher (Kristan), Steven (Cali), Maggie, Brianna Cunningham (Brett), Brittany Dusky (Kyle), Lindsay Orlando (Marco), Alexia Schoen-Smith (Chandler), Alyssa, Meghan, and Rebecca; great-grandchildren, Landon, William, Dean, Max, Cara, and Santino; sister, Helen Griffin of Marblehead; and brother, James of Bellevue.

He was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 56 years, Greta Jo (nee Etherington); son, Timothy Schoen; parents, Norbert and Sarah (nee Gerber) Schoen; and two brothers, Norris and Franklin.

Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at Laubenthal Mercado Funeral Home, 38475 Chestnut Ridge Rd., Elyria, (440) 322-4626. Closing prayers will be recited at 9:15 a.m. Thursday, March 14, 2024, at the funeral home. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church 41295 North Ridge Rd., Elyria. The Rev. Father Neil G. Walters, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
