Walter Bauman Obituary

Walter H. Bauman

Jan 18, 1931 - Aug 5, 2023

Sandusky

Walter H. Bauman, 92, of Sandusky passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

He was born Jan. 18, 1931, in Norwalk, and was a graduate of Norwalk High School. He was a graduate of Miami University where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degree. Walter retired after 30 years of teaching at Jackson Junior High. He was a hard worker and painted homes when he wasn't teaching. Following retirement, he spent 10 years working for the former Stambaugh's. Walter was kind, generous, and genuinely cared about people. He spent much of free time serving his community by doing kind gestures such as visiting nursing home residents, starting Sunday school classes for developmentally challenged children, and taking those with no rides wherever they needed to go, just to name a few. When he wasn't serving others, he found tranquility fishing on the pier, woodworking, painting pictures, and ceramics.

He was a member of the Gideon organization, 40-year member of Perseverance Lodge No. 329, F. & A.M., serving as Master in 2012, Sandusky City Chapter No. 72 R.A.M., Sandusky City Council No. 26 R. & S.M., Erie Commandery No. 23 K.T., and the Singara Grotto. Walter was a lifelong member of the former St. Paul Lutheran Church and just recently became a member of Faith Church.

He is survived by four children, Michael (Cherie) Bauman, Jennifer (Jack) Bauman, and Mary Bauman, all of Sandusky, and Heidi (Joe) Fliehman of Indiana; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and niece, Mary Thole.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Bauman in 2010; son, John Bauman in 2010; parents, Hans and Friederike (Mayer) Bauman; and siblings, Irwin Bauman, George Bauman, and Johanna Meyer.

Visitation for friends will be 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 11, 2023, until the time of Masonic services at 12 p.m. at Faith Church, 1320 E. Strub Road, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870. Walter's memorial service will follow with Pastors Tom Groot and Ken Hiser officiating. Inurnment committal services for family will be at Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron.

Memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International, Erie County, P.O. Box 2173, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870, Stein Hospice Service, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio, 44870, or Faith Church.
