Wanda Gladwell Obituary

Wanda "June" Gladwell

Jun 30, 1934 - Feb 7, 2025

Sandusky

Wanda "June" Gladwell, 90, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully Friday, February 7, 2025, at Firelands Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.

Our dear mother, June, was born in Beckley, West Virginia, May 30, 1934, to Romy and Cuma Mace. It was in Beckley at an ice cream shop that she met her husband, Harold, who had been working there. When he returned from serving in the Korean War, they were married, moved to Sandusky, and raised their five children, Brenda, Cheryl, Jeff, Kevin, and Timothy.

June worked for Erie County Sheriff's jail as a matron and Ohio Veterans Home. She had a beautiful long life, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. June was an avid Cleveland Browns fan.

We are comforted knowing she is healed and happy to be with her husband; her daughter, Brenda; and her sons, Jeff and Kevin.

She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Bays; and son, Timothy Gladwell; her grandchildren, Rodney, Brandon (Julie), Anthony, Brittany, Luke (Jessica), Jake; and seven great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, June is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; daughter, Brenda Austin; sons, Jeff and Kevin Gladwell; son-in-law, John Bays; her siblings, Linda Hipes, John Henry and Leroy Mace.

Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday, February, 14, 2025, at Toft Funeral Home & Crematory, 2001 Columbus Ave. Sandusky, Ohio 44870. At the family's request cremation will take place and a graveside service will take place at a later date at Perkins Cemetery.

She is now enjoying the view of the beautiful West Virginia Mountains that she loved so much.

I wrote about June in my personal journal Sept. 5th and I´d like to share it with you now. I deeply feel June already knows what it says because I think she heard my heart speak when I wrote it. RIP June

Fall clouds, the light is so beautiful. The leaves are turning and within all the bounty of fall beauty a massive death is at hand. Dying only to be reborn, the cycle continues for eternity. Vividly thinking of June Gladwell. Fantasia. Clearly picturing her with my mom at her bedside, and then of June as the woman who took care of us when we were children. The sweet pickles, the backyard bbq´s, the drive way hang outs by the jeep, and the helicopter ride at the county fair. Vividly I feel the joy from being lifted onto your son´s shoulders. I feel the joy now from the memories of feeling joy then. The whole household infolding us into your family with acceptance, love, and laughter. Thank you June Gladwell, thank you Harold. Thank you to the family you both made. Thank you for making a safe and happy place for us in the world when we were children on the beginning of a different journey. You were a rock we could rely on at an age in our lives when we wouldn´t have even comprehended what that meant. That was a very happy time in my life. June, you were one of the best parts of my childhood and I will be forever grateful.

So very sorry for your loss of your dear mom. I remember her from the neighbor hood growing up, always so kind.

I am so sorry to hear of June's passing. She was the sweetest person to work with I really enjoyed her and Sheriff Gladwell when I worked there for a short time. They were wonderful and kind people. The last time I saw her she had come to vote at the Board of Elections and that is where I was working. She stopped in and it was so good to see her and visit with her. I am sorry for your family's loss.
