Albert Porter Obituary

Rev. Albert Ezekiel Porter

Mar 11, 1952 - Jan 3, 2024

Sandusky

Rev. Albert Ezekiel Porter entered into eternal rest Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2024, at home surrounded by his faithful wife and caring, supportive family.

Albert was born March 11, 1952, to the union of Beatrice William Porter and SP Porter.

Albert attended Sandusky Public Schools and graduated with the class of 1971. Following graduation, Albert entered the workforce. His employment history included Almags, Sandusky Crayon, Northfork and Western Railroad, and finally retiring from Routh Packing.

In 1972, Rev. Porter united in holy matrimony to his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Louise (Moore) Porter. This union lasted 52 years and resulted in three beautiful daughters, Ivy Porter, Tiffany (John) Webb, and Heather Porter. Albert and Louise are the proud grandparents to eight grandchildren, Christopher Porter, Chanel (lbraham) McDougle-Yakubu, LaMonica (Jeans) Louissant, A'morreale Porter, Gene Porter, Benjamin Fuller, Lynn' Diah Spearman, and Isis Webb, and great-grandchildren, Christian, Nathan, Noel, Mohammed, Amira, George, Jream, Ayaana, Amira, and Anaika. The Porters were further blessed with Goddaughter, Jamareec Hampton, honorary grandchildren, Twan Cranfield, Tyree Webb, John Webb V, and Alijah Churchwell, and special nephew, David Randle.

Rev. Albert Porter confessed Jesus Christ as his personal savior at a young age and became a lifelong member of Ebenezer Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Pastor Leon Troy, the late Pastor Emeritus Curtis A. Brown, and Pastor Clayton E. Howard. Rev. Porter attended all the children and youth activities at the church. In 1994, Rev. Albert accepted and announced his calling to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and received his certificate of license by Dr. Curtis A. Brown in September, 1995. Rev. Porter's calling became a ministry of "helps." This ministry birthed Sandusky Gospel Fest, the Community Breakfast at Emmanual and later at Ebenezer Baptist Church, the annual coat drive, and the jailhouse evangelistic and mentoring meetings. Rev. Porter also hosted prayer meetings and Bible study in his home. Rev. Porter's love of youth led him to coaching Amvets baseball for many years. In 2009, his team won the city championship.

Already missing the physical presence, but holding fast to precious memories of Rev. Porter is his faithful, devoted wife, Louise; daughters, Ivy Porter, Tiffany (John) Webb, and Heather Porter; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; Goddaughter; sisters, Lula Rollison and Nellie Taylor; brother, Rev. Sam Porter; sisters-in-law, Janiece Moore, Betty Sue Johnson, Shawn (Micheal) Miller, and Debra Patrick; special sister-in-law, Rhondetta Moore; brother-in-law, Eugene Moore; and nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Sister Betty Porter Lewis; brothers, Peter, Willie, Mulan, David, and Benjamin; sisters-in-laws, Janet Porter and Genevieve Porter; brothers-in-law, Elroy Rollison, James Sanders, and Dent Moore; father and mother-in-law, Denton and Geneie Lou Moore; parents; and grandparents preceded Rev. Porter in his transition.

Rev. Porter's celebration of life will be 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, 2024, until the time of the celebration at 12 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 1215 Pierce Street, Sandusky. Pastor Tracy Shoemo will be the officiant and Pastor Clayton Howard as eulogist. Interment will be at Oakland Cemetery.

Timothy 4:6-8 New King James Version (NKJV)
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

Rev. Porter´s love for children was always evident. I specifically remember he used to organize a toy and bike giveaway. He also made it his mission to collect warm coats to give to kids. He was a blessing to this community and will be missed.

I am saddened to learn about the transition of my childhood friend and Harrison Street neighbor. From the time of our shared upbringing, the Porter family and Swopes family enjoyed beautiful memories and frequent gathering "under the big tree" near our homestead. Albert´s life is a great testament to his wonderful parents and entire family. I will always cherish his friendship and love for others. May he rest in eternal peace and may his memories be a blessing to his family and all who loved him so dearly.

I am going to miss Pastor Albert so much. From memories of him standing in the pulpit, or with Pastor Brown, to walking past the house going wherever I was headed and stopping to say hello when he was on his porch. Truly a great, and God fearing man. I have nothing but love for the Porter family. My deepest condolences to you all. Well done, Pastor Porter. Rest well.
