Albert L. Summers, 97, residing in Sandusky, passed away Monday, September 4, 2023 at home after a brief illness.
Albert was born on February 20, 1926 in Ceylon, OH to the late and Vernon and Doris (Daniels) Summers.
He was a Veteran of the United States Army who proudly served his country in the Pacific during WWII. He retired as a Railroad Engineer at Norfolk & Southern after 43 years of service. Albert was a member of American Legion Post 83, Sandusky and VFW Post #2529 Sandusky. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was also a handyman and even built his own home.
Albert is survived by his daughters, Dee (Blake) McGory of Sandusky, OH and Jean (Keith) Morrison of Cincinnati, OH, sons, Bill (Jenny) Summers of Aiken, SC and, Jeff (Tonya) Summers of Spencerville, IN, 9 grandchildren, Dana, Dean, Jonathan, Kelly, Andrew, Jacob, Emily, Bradley, Elizabeth; nine great grandchildren; one great-great-grandson, sisters, Betty Franklin of Fremont, OH, and Carrie Clouser of South Amherst, OH, brother, John Summers of Wakeman, OH and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
In addition to his parents, Albert is preceded in death by wife, Ruth (Becker) Summers in 2009, granddaughter, Dawn Sport, one great-grandson Kelsey Matt; sisters, Florence Lander, Fran Malone, and Mary Fritz, brothers, Chuck Summers, Ralph Summers and Jim Summers; and two sisters in infancy.
Friends may call on Monday September 11, 2023 from 10 AM until time of funeral service at 11 AM in Christ Community Church, 2401 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870, Pastor Erin Porter will officiate. Burial will follow in Peaks Cemetery, Berlin Heights, Ohio. The Groff Funeral Home and Crematory are assisting the family.
