Alfred Bryson Wise of Catawba Island, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024, at Otterbein Senior Living, Marblehead, Ohio. He was 101 years old.

He was born in Bellevue, Ohio, Oct. 6, 1923, he was the son of Charles O. and Laura M. (Donnenwirth) Wise.

His brother, Charles B. Wise; and sister, Barbara E. Wise Compton-Nickels-Compton also preceded him in death. Mr. Wise never married.

Mr. Wise is survived by five nieces; and nephews. James (Donna) Compton of Lyndhurst , Ohio, Patricia Compton-Fisk of Norwalk, Charles W. (Dian) Wise of Talbott, Tennessee, Michael Nickels of Shelby, and Kathy (Barney) Nickels-Yaussy of Collins, Ohio.

He lived independently at home until very recently. His family has always lovingly called him Uncle Bud and his many friends and associates called him Al. He was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, Bellevue.

He graduated from Bellevue High School and was soon inducted into the United States Army during WW II. He served in Europe, being severely wounded at the Battle of Hurtzgen Woods in November 1944 and was awarded The Purple Heart. After several months of recovery in military hospitals in the USA, he enrolled at Ohio State University, Columbus. There, he joined Alpha Sigma Pi fraternity and remained an active life long member. Upon graduating OSU he pursued a career in banking, serving at several central Ohio financial institutions and ultimately the Delaware County Bank in Delaware, where he retired as Bank President. He was a 77 year member of Bellevue Masonic Lodge No. 273.

In retirement he maintained homes in Ft Lauderdale, Florida and Catawba Island, Ohio. His lifelong interests were boats, boating and being around boats. He owned pleasure boats in both Florida and Ohio. He once said that a requirement for a home was a view of the water and boats thereon.

Mr. Wise was very private, quiet man and shunned the limelight. He was silently generous with financial gifts to many worthy causes and individuals. The benefits of these good works are his legacy.

His visitation will be 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, until time of funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at Auxter Funeral Home, 1105 Castalia St, SR 269, Bellevue, Ohio. Pastor Justin Jump will officiate. Military Graveside rites will be conducted, by Bellevue VFW, 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, in Bellevue City Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in honor of Mr. Wise may be made to Ashanti Hospice, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
