Karen Gundlach Obituary

Karen L. Gundlach

Apr 24, 1950 - Mar 28, 2026

Sandusky

Karen Lynn (Phillips) Gundlach, 75, of Sandusky, passed away late Saturday evening, March 28, 2026, with her family by her side at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky, after a lengthy illness.

Born April 24, 1950, in Linton, Indiana, the daughter of Charles William Duncan and Onieta Pearl Phillips. Over the years, she had enjoyed floral arranging and cake decorating, but she especially loved singing karaoke and, at one time, ran "Karen's Karaoke" with her Uncle Don for several years. She will also be remembered by her family for her love of animals.

Karen was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 83 and Huron Eagle Ladies Auxiliary AERIE No. 2875.

She is survived by her husband of 18 years, Hal D. Gundlach; her son, Scott (Emily) Campbell of Orlando, Florida; five grandchildren, Eric (KrystaLey) Campbell, Heather (Axel Gonzalez) Campbell, Brianna (Roger Lau) Campbell, Cathryn (Rashan) Williamson and Richard (Heather) Adams; six great-grandchildren, Sabrina, Donovan, James, Evelynn, Saryn and Atlas; her stepson, Matthew (Denise) Gundlach of Sandusky, OH; two stepgrandchildren, Kayli and Tyler Gundlach; two sisters, Sheila (Kevin) Geyer and Brenda Acquaviva; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and her best friend and companion, her dog, "Benji."

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and numerous other family members.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning, April 1, 2026, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 214 E. Jefferson Street, Sandusky, with the Rev. Theodore C. Buehl officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her memory to Stein Hospice Service Inc., 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870; Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior Street, Sandusky, OH 44870; or Erie County Dog Pound, 2900 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky, OH 44870.

Arrangements are entrusted to David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky.

Tribute to Karen G
You always had the Heartlight that made every room shine, Karen. When times felt dark, you reminded us to Turn on Your Heartlight and let love lead the way.
You were our Sweet Caroline - bringing smiles and good times wherever you went, arms open and laughter ringing out like a melody that never fades.
You faced each day Thank the Lord for the Night Time style - full of energy, rhythm, and the joy of life. You believed in Forever in Blue Jeans, staying humble and true to yourself, knowing happiness didn´t come from things but from the love you shared.
We´ll always remember how Love on the Rocks could still make you sway, and how, in your own way, you kept reminding us - Song Sung Blue, everybody knows one. Through all of life´s verses, you found the harmony.
Now, as we say goodbye, we keep you close in every Beautiful Noise. You´re part of every note, every chord, every song we sing from here on.
Because, dear Karen G... You Don´t Bring Me Flowers anymore - but you left us with gardens of memories that will bloom forever.
Love always,
Jeff L. And Renee L.
