Alice Mary (Hummel) Woodruff, 86, residing in Sandusky, passed away peacefully Friday evening, October 3, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family, following a lengthy illness.
Born January 5, 1939, in Sandusky, Alice was the daughter of the late Otto and Ophelia (Arzt) Hummel.
A graduate of Sandusky High School, Alice was a lifelong member of Holy Angels Catholic Church. In her free time, she enjoyed camping and bowling, and for many years proudly supported her husband as his biggest fan and "groupie" for The Rebound Band. Above all, Alice deeply cherished her role as a devoted mother and grandmother, and treasured every moment spent with her family and friends.
Alice is survived by her sons, William (Mona) Woodruff of Burlington, Kentucky, and Dewey Raymond Woodruff of Sandusky; daughter, Christine (Gary) Woodruff Byler of Willard; eight grandchildren, Nick, Alison, Cory, Jesiah, Alexandra, Emily, Noah, and Evan; 12 great-grandchildren, Tyler, Molly, Abbie, Nash, Lila, Harper, Maeve, Dylan, Marshall, Barrett, Gwen, and Ezra Dean; sister-in-law, Anita Hummel; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dewey R. Woodruff Jr., in 2010; four sisters; and one brother.
A Memorial Mass will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky. Inurnment will take place in Meadow Green Memorial Park, Huron. Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, Sandusky, is assisting family with arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Alice's memory may make contributions to Holy Angels Catholic Church, 428 Tiffin Ave., Sandusky, OH 44870, or Stein Hospice Services, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, OH 44870.
