Arlie Evans Obituary

Arlie Ray Evans

Dec 13, 1937 - Apr 5, 2025

Sandusky

Arlie Ray Evans, 87, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully with his family by his side Saturday, April 5, 2025, at Providence Care Center.

Born December 13, 1937, in Wise County, Virginia, Arlie was the son of the late Fred C. and Viola E. (Hensley) Evans. He grew up in Sandy Ridge, Virginia, and as a young man, moved to Ohio with dreams of building a better life for himself and his beloved wife, Wanda. Together, they settled in Sandusky, where they raised their family and built a loving home.

Arlie's greatest joy in life was his family. Known for his kind heart and steady guidance, he became a father figure not only to his own children but to many extended family members as well. His wisdom, love, and life lessons left a lasting impact on all who knew him. Arlie especially treasured time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of his life, and his precious dog, Percy.

A hardworking and talented man, Arlie was truly a "Jack of all trades" who could build or repair anything he set his mind to. He never turned away anyone who needed a helping hand, and his generosity and selflessness were hallmarks of his character. Arlie retired from Ford Motor Company after 38 years of dedicated service and also spent time working at Klenk's Autobody. He attended Sandusky Church of God.

In his free time, Arlie could often be found at Mills Creek Golf Course, playing a round with his loyal friend Welston, rain or shine. In his younger years, he enjoyed racing cars, fishing, and cheering on his children and grandchildren at their sporting events.

Arlie is survived by his wife, Wanda Mae (Younce) Evans; daughter, Pamela (Terry) Eckenrode of Sandusky; son, Michael (Elizabeth) Evans of Sandusky; siblings, Harold (Shelby) Evans, Lorene Brooks and Theresa Evans, all of Sandy Ridge, Virginia; grandchildren, Renee (Greg) Grime and Ryan (Maria) Voegle; great-grandchildren, Elianna, Kaelyn, and Aubree Grime; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Arlie is preceded in death by his siblings, Caephus and Kenneth Evans, and Helen Hummel.

Friends may call from 12 p.m. until time of funeral services at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Groff Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky, with Pastor Samuel Studer presiding. Burial will follow at Meadow Green Memorial Park at a later date.

Those wishing to contribute to Arlie's memory may do so to Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior St, Sandusky, OH 44870.
