Bernard Saylor Obituary

Bernard G. "Bernie" Saylor

Sep 3, 1956 - Feb 4, 2023

Sandusky

Bernard G. "Bernie" Saylor, 66, of Sandusky, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side Saturday, Feb. 4, 2023, at Stein Hospice after a brief and challenging battle with cancer. He was a beloved husband, father, papa, brother, son, uncle, and friend.

He was born Sept. 3, 1956, in Sandusky, to the late John and Barbara (McCourt) Saylor.

Bernie was a 1975 graduate of Margaretta High School. He then went on to proudly serve our country as a Marine. After his time in U.S. Marine Corps, he worked at Ford Motor Company and worked as a maintenance supervisor at Cedar Point for 43 years. Bernie retired with pride this past January from a career he loved. His Cedar Point family was very special to him. He was a member of the local 480, VFW Post 2529, and American Legion Post 83.

Bernie loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and granddaughters. Bernie was known as a big teddy bear to those that were lucky enough to know him and call him a friend. He took immense pride in being "Papa" to his grandchildren. Bernie's dream was to one day travel to Alaska, but unfortunately, he left us too soon. His family still plans to honor his wishes and take this trip in his memory.

Bernie is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Jennie (Driscoll) Saylor; children, Brad (Lisa) Saylor and Adam (Ashley) Saylor; grandchildren, Olivia, Kenadie, Matthew, Lakelynn, and Remi; sister, Sue (John) Kane; brother, Bill Saylor; mother-in-law, Ida Driscoll; several nieces, nephews, and other relatives; and loyal companion, Ava.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, at Groff Funeral Home and Crematory, 1607 E. Perkins Ave., Sandusky. Bernie's funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, at the funeral home with Pastor Jay Haley officiating.

Those wishing to contribute in Bernie's memory may do so to The Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org) or Back to the Wild, 4504 Bardshar Road, Castalia, Ohio, 44824.
