Betty Jean Brown

Oct 30, 1950 - Jan 14, 2025

Sandusky

Betty Jean Brown, 74, Sandusky gave up the ghost and went home to be with the Lord after a unexpected illness Tuesday, January 14, 2025. Betty Jean was born October 30, 1950, in Sandusky.

Betty Jean graduated from Sandusky High School in 1969 and furthered her education by attending Park College in Parkville, Missouri. She worked at Eckrich in Fremont and, in her later days, at Walmart in Sandusky, Ohio. Betty Jean was a lifelong member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, where she was baptized under Dr. Leon Troy. She was a member of the girl's guild and was a faithful servant for many years on the usher board and kitchen staff.

Betty Jean never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a smile and her favorite saying, "Old lady kickin' but not high." Betty Jean had the unique ability to make everyone feel valued and loved. Betty Jean will be remembered by her family and friends as a culinary enthusiast for all the cookies, pastries and cakes she made and all the meals she prepared for the bereaved, church events and the sick and shut in. Betty Jean showed her love for her family, friends and ommunity through cooking.

Betty Jean was a dedicated daughter and was most proud of how she was able to be a caregiver, confidant and friend to her beloved mother, Essie Belle Brown. Dueto her infectious spirit and generous heart she became an adopted member of the Pettis Family with a special adoration for Michael and Gina.

Betty Jean leaves to cherish her memory special cousins, Rene' King (Henry Moore Jr), Eternity King; her baby girl, Serenity Sallee; adored nephew, Ka'Shawn Hemphill; beloved nieces, Kimberly (Thurston) Bailey and Lacresha Pearson; great-nephew, Bryce Bailey; special sister and brother-in-law, Semon "Bozo" (Charlayne) Johnson; lifelong buddies; Geraldine "Geri" Kuemmbi, and Deborah Rather; and a host of relatives and friends.

Betty Jean was preceded in death by her mother, Essie Belle Brown; father, Houston "Peck" Brown; brothers, Charles "Butch" Marshall Sr. and James Edward Brown; grandparents, Dave and Inez Nesbit Sr.; uncle, Dave Nesbit Jr. and Mosie Lee Nesbit.

My prayers go out to the Brown family and friends.

My memories of Betty goes back to Mills School and what good times we had. There was that Clay St. area and the Project connection.

Betty was a Friend and like her brother Ed or Choo where always liked respected and both class officers at SHS.

Betty Jean will be missed by us all. Thanks for the wonderful memories.
