Beverly Ann Byrd Borders, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cherished friend and former teacher to so many, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Feb. 26, 2026.
Beverly was born in 1952, in Granite Falls, N.C., to Willie and Mack Ray Byrd. After she graduated from UNC Greensboro, she landed a teaching position in Shelby, where she met her Husband Robert “Bob” Wilson Borders Jr. They were married on June 26, 1976.
Beverly was a National Board-Certified teacher with Cleveland County Schools (primarily at Crest High School) and had a passion for sharing her knowledge with all her English, journalism and Latin students through the years. Full of life and always on the go, Beverly loved traveling all over the world with her family and friends, as well as hosting traveling families through Friendship Force. She had many interests and hobbies from travel to music, pottery, dance, the dramatic arts, and she was an avid reader. She mostly cherished being a loving wife to her husband Bob, outstanding mother to her son Will, fun-loving friend with her pals, and devoted member of her first Baptist Church family, giving back to her community and simply being a shining example of what Gods will looks like here on earth.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Willie Mae Fox Byrd and Mack Ray Byrd. She is survived by husband Robert Wilson Borders Jr., a son Will Henderson Borders and daughter-in-law Adrienne Smith Borders; granddaughters Willow and Harper Borders; brother-in-law Steve and Cindy Borders; Sister-in-law Nancy and Tim Paschall; Nieces and nephews, Ben (Melissa) Borders, Brandy (Jim) Curtis, Laura (Brad) Glaza and Anna (Philip) Paschall-Kellogg.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 7, at First Baptist Church; visitation will be from 12:30 – 2 p.m., followed by the service at 2 p.m. Officiated by Rev. Asher Panton.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you send donations in Beverly’s memory to Eugenia H. Young Memorial Library, The Cleveland County Arts Council, or First Baptist Church of Shelby, N.C.

A truly special person; she had that "spark" as a teacher and it always remained in all my interactions with her over the years afterwards. That "spark" was love that she shared with all. My prayers with the family. I know she will be missed!

Beverly has been my co worker and friend since the late 70s. We had so much fun teaching together and more fun in the theatre. In fact, Beverly is the reason I was into theatre so profoundly. She helped me get my first job teaching theatre at Crest Middle School. I will always be thankful for that awesome gift.
To the family, you are in my prayers. Last Sunday at Saint Francis a prayer was said for Beverly and the family.❤

Deepest sympathy to Bob, Will, and all family... From my time at Crest in her (and his) classes to the personal friendships with Mom and Dad (Jim and Penny) at church and beyond -- including the continued kindnesses in the past year... she was and is a gift of joy and memories.

We were friends and sister members of the Contrarian Book Club. I truly loved this sweet, smart, lovely, and thoughtful woman who enjoyed sharing her ideas with all of us. She and Bob also shared their home for some of our meetings. What a treat! We will miss her terribly. Friends like her are rare indeed. We also shared a time in history: their wedding anniversary and my birthday. I enjoyed that connection. Our hearts are broken right now but we are so glad that she was a part of our lives for several years. Wow! She could light up a room with her infectious smile and vibrant personality. Rest in peace, our beloved friend.

Mrs. Borders was my Language Arts teacher at Crest Jr. High School and she was the best. I would still see her and would tease her and tell her that she better remember my name. I loved this lady and she loved me. Always had a smile on her face. I am so saddened to know that she is no longer here. Please know that I am so sorry for your family's loss and that I am in prayer for you all.
