Charles Myers Obituary

Charles E. "Charlie" Myers

Jul 18, 1943 - Feb 1, 2023

Sandusky

Charles Edward "Charlie" Myers passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2023, after fiercely battling Parkinson's disease for over 40 years.

He was born July 18, 1943, to the late Albert J. and Catherine H. (Marinello) Myers. He graduated in 1961 from Huron High School and in 1965, he graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in Animal Science. He served in U.S. Army from 1965-1968.

Charlie was an inspiration to many people, having lived a full life, even participating in Rock Steady boxing the day before he was admitted to the hospital. He would hope that his life would serve as a reminder to anyone facing a diagnosis like Parkinson's disease to never give up.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Angela (Cafasso) Myers; four children, Andrea Myers of Fairfax, Virginia, Stephanie (Aaron) Gadbois of Alexandria, Virginia, Adam Myers (Michelle Melendez) of New Albany, and Carolyn Myers (Mark Ferisin) of Tarrytown, New York; two beloved grandchildren, Olivia Rose and Theodor Charles Ferisin; siblings, Mark Myers of Reynoldsburg, Tom (Betty) Myers of Huron, Catherine (Robert) Heffley of Palmyra, Virginia, and Steven Myers of Huron; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; niece, Jennifer Lach; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Myers; and aunts, uncles, and other relatives.

Charlie owned and operated Myers Brothers Custom Butchering for 40 years. Prior to that, he worked at Routh Packing Company. He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul parish and past member of Huron Township Conservation Club, Ohio Association of Meat Processors, and U.S. Trotting Association. He enjoyed spending time with family, gardening, cheering for The Ohio State Buckeyes, and while in his prime, fishing, hunting, and volunteering his time at Erie County Fair.

It was his wish to be cremated.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2023, at David F. Koch Funeral and Cremation Services, 520 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2023, at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 510 Columbus Avenue, Sandusky. Fr. Zachry Brown will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by American Legion Post # 83 and V.F.W. Post # 2529.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Cambridge Home Health for the years of care and service they provided, his therapists at Firelands Hospital â€" especially his trainers at Rock Steady boxing, and the staff at Stein Hospice.

Donations may be made in Charlie's memory to COAR Peace Mission, the community of St. Oscar Romero that has been sheltering, educating, and healing children of El Salvador (to which his cousin, the late Fr. Ken Myers, dedicated his life), in care of COAR Peace Mission, 28700 Euclid Ave., Wickliffe, Ohio, 44092-2585 or coarpeacemission.org, or Erie County 4-H Committee, in care of OSU Extension, Suite 126, 2900 Columbus Ave., Sandusky, Ohio, 44870.

The Myers were our neighbors growing up. We lived on the corner of Center & South Street. Mrs. Myers would occasionally watch me when I could not attend school and all of the family was very kind. I am sorry for your loss.

COAR Peace Mission

February 6, 2023

Charlie and his family have been great supporters of the COAR children in El Salvador. He followed in a fine family tradition of caring for the vulnerable children that his cousin Fr. Ken Myers began when he founded COAR for war orphans in 1980. We hope it is a comfort to Angela and their family that Charlie´s legacy is now eternal, watching over the children he has helped, who will be paying it forward to their children, owing it to Charlie, who will now be a gentle wind at their backs. My sincere sympathy to Angela and Family. Charlie will always be remembered for his tenacity and strength over the last 40 years with Parkinson's. I enjoyed getting to know him with the Parkinson's Support Group. May he rest in peace.
